We are a week into our Summer Socks and Un**es Drive.

Can you help?

We are attempting to gather 2000 pairs of socks and 2000 pairs of adult underwear before August 30th. This is a MASSIVE number but we think we can do it with your help!
Now is the time to connect with your sports team, place of worship, workplace or friends to come together to make a difference.

Did you know? We are able to provide a tax receipt for donations valued at $20 or more if you supply us with a receipt for proof of purchase. So find those sales, bring in your donations and even get a tax receipt!

Our clothing market depends on donations for new underwear and lots of socks, both being essential items, specifically for our street-involved community members. There has been a 25% increase in visits to our clothing market since this time last year. To meet this demand, we would greatly appreciate donations of socks and underwear. We are accepting new underwear in its original packaging. We need adult sizes for both men and women.

Annatto

Annatto is a mild spice from the seeds of the schiote tree. It is native to South and Central America. With its deep red colour it is often used as a natural colouring in a variety of food. An example is Red Leicester cheese. Annatto seeds have a sweet and peppery taste that are used to enhance the flavours of sauces, stocks, and fish dishes. It’s a good idea to buy annatto as a pre ground spice. The seeds are tough to grind manually.

HISTORY OF COCOA

In 1828, Dutch chemist Coenraad van Houten discovered a way to treat the cacao beans with alkaline salts. He made a powdered chocolate that was easier to mix with water. The process became known as “Dutch processing” and the chocolate that was produced was called cacao powder or “Dutch cocoa".

Cocoa contains a variety of chemicals, including antioxidants called flavonoids. It's not clear how these might work in the body, but they appear to relax the blood vessels.
