November is Diabetes Awareness Month đź’™

This year’s theme: “Change the Conversation About Diabetes; Stop the Stigma, Learn the Truth.”

Let’s tackle some common myths 👇

❌ Myths:

48% of Canadians believe diabetes is caused by consuming too much sugar.

61% believe it’s caused by poor diet, lifestyle choices, or obesity.

More than half think diabetes impacts a person’s ability to do certain jobs.

đź’ˇ The Truth:

Diabetes is not caused by eating too much sugar.

People don’t “give themselves” diabetes.

The causes are complex—genes, family history, ethnic background, environmental and lifestyle factors all play a role.

Diabetes can lead to serious complications such as stroke, heart attack, or vision loss.

And there are no days off for managing diabetes.

Let’s change the conversation. Let’s end the stigma. 💙

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Each year, September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day honours the children who never returned home and Survivors of residential schools, as well as their families and communities. Public commemoration of this tragic and painful history — and the ongoing impacts of residential schools — is a vital part of the reconciliation process.

At the North Muskoka NPLC, we acknowledge that we are on the traditional lands of the Anishinaabeg, specifically the Chippewa, Ojibwa and Potawatomi Peoples, under the terms of the Robinson-Huron Treaty #61 of 1850, and the Williams Treaties of 1923.
Today and every day, we reflect on our shared responsibility to learn, listen, and walk the path of reconciliation together.

🧡 Every Child Matters 🧡
