✨ Client’s story: attention deficit disorder ✨

Some people conceptualize ADD (attention deficit disorder) as being a condition with a lack of focus and attention. After I learned about EEG technology and brain waves, I started to frame it differently.

Individuals with ADD often have a profile of a lot of slow wave activity, like Theta waves, in the frontal lobe. You can imagine that if you have lots of slow activity it makes it very difficult to focus and concentrate. The other thing about Theta waves, however, is that they indicate an inward focus.

I like to think of individuals with ADD as those who enjoy being in their inner world as much or more as being in the outer world. If we frame it that way, it doesn’t seem like it is a disability or a hindrance, but actually a type of super skill.

✨✨✨ We’re thrilled to welcome Sabrina and Jaelle to the Stable Roots team—two passionate individuals whose values deeply align with our own: creating spaces of safety, fostering connection, and supporting nervous system regulation as a foundation for healing and growth.

- Sabrina brings a background in crisis support and a deep belief in the brain’s ability to heal. As a trained Neurotherapy Technician, she blends evidence-based care with a relational, grounded presence.

- Jaelle is currently pursuing her BScN at TRU and brings hands-on experience from neuroscience units and youth wellness centres. Her trauma-informed, culturally humble approach meets clients where they are, supporting them in feeling seen, held, and connected as they navigate their wellness journey.

Together, they embody our vision: to walk alongside each client in a way that is relational, attuned, and rooted in possibility. We’re so grateful for the co-regulating presence and clinical skill Sabrina and Jaelle bring to our team. They look forward to supporting you on your wellness journey!

Help us welcome them to the herd!

🧠 Client’s story: OCD and Neurofeedback 🧠

Neurofeedback is like biofeedback for the brain. You can learn to regulate and change your brain states with practice. It can, however, take many repetitions before you can actually retrain your brain.

But I had one superstar client who was able to figure out how to calm down her cingulate, and thus reduce his OCD symptoms, in about four or five sessions.

🐴 Meet the Herd: Ayden - A Story of Resilience 🧠 🐴💜

Ayden wasn’t always the calm, curious therapy horse you see today. Rescued at just 3 years old from going to slaughter, Ayden arrived at the farm in a constant state of alarm. His survival strategy was to run — fast and far — whenever he felt unsafe. His nervous system was wired for self-protection, not connection, due to his previous early experiences with humans.

Over the years, we’ve walked gently alongside Ayden, not forcing compliance, but offering safe, consistent, relational experiences that slowly rewired his sense of the world. With time, he learned that connection with humans could feel safe. That his needs mattered.

Ayden reminds us every day that safety is the treatment — for horses and humans alike. His journey speaks to the power of co-regulation, felt safety, and healing through connection.

Now, he loves connecting with clients at the farm, often walking right up to say hello with soft eyes and a powerful, heart-felt presence. When you meet Ayden, you meet a nervous system that has learned to come home. He reminds us: healing is possible. Especially when we don’t have to do it alone.

Ayden models resilience in its truest form — not the absence of fear, but the ability to stay connected in the face of it. We are so grateful that Ayden is part of our healing herd. 💛

One of the most powerful aspects of Neurotherapy is the ability to see what’s really happening in the brain—and help clients understand their experiences with compassion and clarity.

After doing a brain map, and also a check on heart rate variability, we were able to actually see where client’s brain was overactive (which was contributing to her anxiety symptoms). We could also see her levels of arousal in the nervous system.

Showing a client what is happening in their brain when they must complete a task is super revealing. Even more important, however, is that we can do something about it! We have the technology to not only see what is happening in the brain but also to help it move into a more efficient state committee.

Have you been looking for an opportunity to take a much-needed break, but have been struggling to find the time?
Try substituting your daily “coffee break” for a “brainbreak”! ☕☕☕

Our Brain Spa provides a unique opportunity for you to relax alone while working on your wellness. Appointments are tailored to your needs and can be practically scheduled around your busy schedule.

LENS is one of the systems that we use in our Brain Spa. We put small sensors on your head and then the LENS machine produces a very low electrical signal targeted at the specific site, to help redirect your brain towards more optimal functioning. You won’t feel much – but it is able to produce profound changes in the brain due to its specificity.

A LENS treatment is safe, passive, and gentle, with few to no negative side effects. If you are having difficulty sleeping, anxiety, irritability, or trouble concentrating, consider trying LENS today! Book here: https://stableroots.janeapp.com/

🐴 The Neuroscience Behind Trauma and Equine Therapy 🐴

Research shows that trauma impacts the brain’s ability to regulate emotions and impacts the limbic system, responsible for feelings of safety and attachment. Equine therapy addresses this by engaging both the mind and body through experiential learning.

In the presence of a horse, clients can practice grounding techniques and become attuned to their own physiological responses, an essential part of trauma recovery.

Stable Roots cultivates a principle-centred approach, focusing on relationship-building and intentional connection with the horse. The emphasis on connection mirrors the human need for secure attachment. Working with horses, clients experience regulated, attuned relationships that help “retrain” their nervous systems and heal attachment wounds—a core aspect of trauma therapy.
