Post-surgical healing is a Yin and Yang process. Recovery needs space for Rest and Movement. Coolness and Heat. Passive and Active. Celebration and Frustration.
Pain flares belong in the healing journey, even if they suck.
If you’re frustrated with your healing process, I hear you. There’s little prep we’re given to understand the emotional toil of all these ups and downs, all the experiences that can make you feel equally overwhelmed and excited for the progressions.
Hopefully, this gives you some relief.
First Remember, ✨️YOU ARE AMAZING✨️. Even in a pain flare, you got this. Then pause and find some ways to step away from what you’re doing to change the approach. Pain flares feed off those fight, flight and fear responses. So how can you calm the message?
✨️Pause
Check-in and see what’s coming up for you. Give yourself permission to step away, take a break and be ok with finding stillness.

✨️Take deep breaths, or meditate.
It’s important to take long, slow breaths to calm the nervous system.
✨️Find slow and gentle movement.
If you pace, slow it down and match each step with a breath.
✨️Take your pain medications as prescribed.
Don’t tough out the pain or try to go without. Pain management is important for healthy recovery.
✨️Drink lots of water.
Keeps those muscles hydrated and ready to move.
✨️Take a nap.
Because…mmmmmmm naps.
✨️Speak to yourself kindly.
Post-it note words of grace and calm.
“Hey body, you’re safe, you’re loved, you’re incredible. Let’s work on this together.”

With 5 surgeries off the checklist, I've learned a thing or two, and it's important to share our experiences.
If you have an upcoming surgery and want to talk through it, reach out. Pre and post-op care is stronger with a support network.

If my surgeries have a dual purpose first to heal myself, then I hope the second is meant to support others.

What support did you need for your surgery journey?
What supports do you want for your upcoming surgery?

Betwixt and between the healing process.
A week being at home sitting, standing, lying down, walking short distances, and paying attention to sensations and pain, that's the easy part. It's easy to be still and look after yourself because your body demands it of you.

Moving into the transitional phase of healing is the toughest. My mental energy is back. My tolerance for discomfort is hanging by a thread, and the feelings of healing that show up as nerve pain have me feeling off guard. It's the achy time where feeling restless is challenging, and I want to be ok with being calm and accept this time for healing, but instead, I'm really not.

This phase is always the toughest for me. I promised I'd do better. So I'm learning how to lean in.
Deep breathing. Meditation. Journaling. Remembering what pain is telling me and that in this moment, it's a good sign.

I'm working to accept this process with grace.

How have you found paitience for these moments of restlessness?

Hiatus.
I'll be taking some time to look after myself and pausing EndoYoga work.
This year, there have been a number of challenging and emotional life events for my love, my family, and I. All these feelings deserve grace and attention.
I'm also being called to look after my physical well-being with an upcoming procedure.
Everything this year has been themed with "Be gentle and kind" not only with others, but with myself.
Those of you with chronic illness will understand how incredibly challenging it is to accept that we deserve self-care and time. We are allowed to take breaks, in fact, when our mental wellness and the life around us begins to struggle, then it's even more important. I'm learning and battling this lesson often.
I'm willing to listen again, so I'm taking this time so I can come back stronger and be a good example. So I can teach from a place of feeling whole.
In case you need to hear it. "It's ok to pause and rest, so rest a while"
With Love,
Sheelah

Brian ❤
Husband to Laurence, Father to Alaiya.

Laurence’s loved ones want to come together during this challenging time and do something special to future-proof the success of this young family by creating an emergency fund for her and her daughter Alaiya. We want to limit the devastating impact of the loss of her beloved husband and father, Brian, although his absence leaves a void that can never be filled.

Ways you can support during this difficult time:

* Donate to this GofundMe
* If you are local to the Kelowna area, please visit www.fleurich.ca and purchase a monthly floral subscription or place an order each week for florals
* Share this Go Fund Me page (link in bio)

Our cousin and friend.
We'll miss you greatly.

Meet the Endoville Team!

These are the incredible people that create, support and organize Endoville

They want to help individuals with Endo, Adno and PCOS live great lives and their Vision is to improve the lives of those affected by these diseases, work towards a future where it's impact is minimal and offer supports to their support networks wherever its needed.

They believe that you, and the people who love and support you, deserve a community that hears you and offers the support networks that help you live a healthier lifestyle.

Endoville is unique in its approach because it puts the members first. The programs (belly dancing, thai chi, yoga etc.), Therapeutic programs (group support sessions, group chats with a counselor and art therapy), along with specific post surgical supports are just some of the programs that make this organization unique.

I'm so honored to share who they are and bring their voice to Canada.

This week, in honor of Endometriosis Awareness month, I’m highlighting Endoville. A non-profit organization whose aim is to support individuals living with Endo, Adno and PCOS. This group raises awareness, empowers and inspires those who have these diseases and those who support them. They offer programs and services such as health and wellness, financial health tips, dance and movement, and fashion-forward ideas to enhance their quality of life through building a community we deserve!

I’m so inspired and grateful for the work this organization does. They work tirelessly to ensure real change and movement in a positive direction for anyone with Endo, ADNO and/or PCOS and their reach is extending into Canada!!!!

In celebration, we’ll be introducing you to the organization, its members and what’s in store for Canadians with Endo, Adno and PCOS. Get ready!! It’s gonna be a fantastic week!
