Ever wonder why September feels so intense? 🍂

It’s not just back to school season, it’s also therapy season!

Many therapists notice a rush of client inquiries this month. If September feels heavier for you, you’re not imagining it. It happens for many of us!

The shorter days, shifting routines, and seasonal energy changes all stir things up on a biological, psychological, and spiritual level. For some, this becomes the nudge to begin therapy for the first time. For others, it’s the reminder to reconnect with their counsellor and continue the work they started earlier in the year.

September has a way of helping us reconnect with our truest self, trust the direction it is pulling you towards 🍂.

I am forever grateful to be doing the work I dreamed of since I was a child. When I was 9, I came across a psychology textbook and chose to spend my summer break reading it. I was fascinated with the subject and the idea that there could be a job where I could one day help people. There was so much in my life that was out of my control at that age, but somehow I found peace in the possibility of helping others when I “grew up”.

Today, I’m honoured to live that dream. I truly love the work I do, and I don’t take the trust my clients place in me for granted. Helping others feel seen and heard not only supports their healing, but also fills something in me that my inner child always felt called to do!

Thank you to everyone who has shared their experience working with me — your words mean more than I can say 💙

A decade later, I’m filled with gratitude for every client who has trusted me on their journey. Here’s to growth, resilience, and the power of attunement. May we always strive towards meeting our highest, most authentic self ✨. Thank you for being part of this incredible journey!

What is the one aspect of life that changes our brains, our bodies, and our relationships - but has little to none research? Motherhood - the changes that happen to every woman after giving birth.

Let us pay more attention to the forgotten “fourth trimester” when caring for our female clients, friends, sisters, and partners

Motherhood: The “Re-birthing” of Every Woman One year after giving birth, and my curiosity has lead me to question why women’s bodies go through so many significant changes postpartum.  Questions such as why do so many women experience postpartum depression and anxiety after giving birth?

Greatest lesson of the decade - be mindful of who you let into your circle. Someone’s energy can either drain you or rejuvenate your spirit. All relationships and interactions are meant to add to our happiness. ▫️ We only have so much energy and time to give to others - be sure to invest it in those that are good for your soul 🙌✨ Happy new year and beginning of the 20s 💕🌙

Becoming a mother is much harder than the labor pains, the trauma of giving birth and the experience of watching your body change from what it once was.
__
Becoming a mother is the light switch of becoming completely selfless overnight, putting aside any need of your own to fulfill that of the beautiful being who now depends on you for survival. It is letting go of the basic necessities of sleep, nutrition, and any personal enjoyment in order to pour everything into your child.
__
Becoming a mother to a daughter carries with it the responsibility to raise a young girl that is powerful, strong minded, and not afraid to stand up for herself in a world where the feminine strength is overshadowed by the masculine ego.
__
Becoming a mother is pushing through the greatest growing pains a women endures as she embraces an entirely new version of love and selflessness as her heart has now moved outside of her body and is living in her child. All doing so while the world watches and judges how quickly you lose the baby weight, how well your child is sleeping, or whether you are doing “all the right things” as a parent.

Science has shown that chronic stress leads to inflammation in the body. That inflammation has been linked to depression and other inflammatory disorders, such as arthritis, lupus, heart disease and even some forms of cancer.

Gabor Mate writes about the impact of stress on our body in his book, “When the Body Says No”. Essentially stating that when we don’t limit the stress we are exposed to, our body starts saying “NO” through physiological changes and illness.

Vancouver-based psychiatrist Dr. Diane McIntosh spoke to The Globe and Mail about cortisol, blueberry cures and why talking to someone is always a good idea

What happens when childhood trauma goes unhealed? There are many outcomes but one is that the victim develops unhealthy coping mechanisms. ▫️ Often victims of trauma can become quite aggressive, engage in substance abuse, struggle with relationships, and fail to see the impact of their actions ▫️ As adults, victims can become perpetrators in their own relationships - therefore continuing the cycle of abuse into generations ➰▫️ In therapy, sometimes clients are asked to take a look at how the same behaviors they once feared from their abuser have subconsciously become part of their own repertoire as adults 💭 ◾️ Healing is painful, but leaving our trauma unhealed is far more dangerous ❌

“For those habituated to high levels of stress since early childhood, it is the ABSENCE of stress that creates UNEASE”- Gabor Mate. ▪️ Did you know that you could actually become addicted to a state of stress, and unease? ▫️ When we have experienced many years of trauma our body learns to feel COMFORTABLE in chaos. Therefore when things are going “right” we might try to create chaos to get back to a state that we know - high stress and crisis. ◾️ Several of the traumatized children I work with tend to “push buttons” of the trusted adults in their life to try and force a reaction they are more familiar with - arguing, screaming, violence is more familiar to them. As creatures of habit, both children and adults can become ADDICTED to FAMILIARITY 🔸 In what ways are you repeating patterns in your life? - Self exploration through journaling, talking to a loved one or a therapist is a great way to notice how old patterns of thinking might be playing a silent but catastrophic role in how you are approaching your present life 〰️
