It was so wonderful to meet the other advisors, instructors and students of the the CIINDE in Halifax. This institute teaches a program in Canada and internationally. I am honoured to be their Lead Advisor. As a graduate of the first cohort in 2021, it has changed my approach to my practice and teaching in a profound way. Thank you TheCIINDE for everything you represent in and healthcare.

Throwback to last month in Nova Scotia where this photo was taken with our team and some of our incredible advisors.

WHAT IS BOWENWORK®?

Bowenwork®, also known as Bowtech®, is a dynamic therapy that stimulates the body to balance itself, often profoundly. It is a soft tissue, remedial therapy that uses sequences of subtle moves over muscle, fascia and connective tissue. These moves are followed by pauses or rests which allow your body time to respond to the stimulation and begin the healing process. This alternation of moves and pauses continues throughout a Bowen session.

As the body responds to the moves and integrates the response, the tension in the muscles and fascia is released, allowing the body to relax. Thus the body shifts from a state of emergency to a place of relaxation, from a sympathetic state to a parasympathetic state. Rather than forcing the body to relax with deep tissue work, Bowenwork® reminds the body how to relax with subtle work so the body can choose how and when to heal. When the body is calm and relaxed, it can re-balance and realign itself, and reintegrate function between the structure, organs, and systems of the body.

Bowenwork is a comprehensive system. You will learn procedures to help a large number of people with various injuries and health problems, both acute and chronic. At times, the focus is solely on the area of concern, particularly when there is trauma from an acute injury. More often, conditions are chronic and a Bowen practitioner will take a holistic (whole body) approach, recognizing the connection of all parts of the system. Whether the connection within the system is explained through functional compensation patterns, the autonomic nervous system, the fascial trains, or energy meridians, the body responds in its own time as determined by its vitality. A Bowen practitioner is trained to work at the pace set by the body’s innate healing wisdom, not by a pre determined, forced agenda. Bowen is a practitioner-friendly modality, that is, there is minimal risk of strain or injury to the practitioner.
