In the spirit of pre-lunar-new-year cleaning, now that we've decluttered, it's time to clean-clean-clean.

In addition to your 'regular' cleaning routine, be sure to remember to:

* wipe down the walls (which is wacky - but seriously, how does it get so yucky?)
* launder bedding andddd you might as well sprinkle baking soda onto the mattress, wait and vacuum up to help deodorize any mustiness
* clean under appliances/furniture (and inside - ahem - the fridge, the oven, etc)
* scrub sinks/tubs
* deep clean the floors
* clean your cleaning tools before and after cleaning (e.g cuz using a dirty mop just seems like you're spreading the grossness)

I would probably recommend doing the smaller items first, then do the wall wipe-downs and floors last (since dirt and stuff will be circulating to those areas)

😁 Now I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm in a "clean-and-tidy mode" (cuz I just moved to a new place and it's pretty muc...

😁 Now I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm in a "clean-and-tidy mode" (cuz I just moved to a new place and it's pretty much been a clean/tidy/organizing mode for the last couple of weeks), butttt Lunar New Year is just around the corner, so my assistant is (likely also not by choice, but definitely by tradition, lol).

So the thinking goes: prior to Lunar New Year, the tradition is to clean out the old and get rid of any lingering bad luck. And in a way, you're making room for good luck.

LOL, to make it easier on myself, I'm going to mention a step I already took: Declutter. For obvious reasons of "not moving into a new home with a bunch of stuff I would no longer use", I discarded/rehomed/recycled anything that was:

* damaged beyond repair (items might include: clothing that can be turned to rags, worn out house slippers, appliances that I meant to get fixed but didn't get fixed, etc)

* not being used (ehh, I mean some appliances still worked but weren't being used - I'm sure I'm not the only one guilty of that. However, someone else can make use of it :) )

* Expired products (including, but not limited to food and spices, makeup, toiletries, medications, etc)

What are you decluttering this week?

Brrrrrrr - Blue Monday, everyone. It's cold. It's always dark and grey. Resolutions have been abandoned. People are in holiday debt. But apparently, the concept of Blue Monday was originally just a marketing tactic ( https://montreal.citynews.ca/2025/01/18/blue-monday-debunked-still-resonates/ )

Regardless - I think we are feeling it. So, how to combat this? It's different for everyone but one thing that always fills people's tanks is doing something good for another person. Here are some things you can try (that won't break the bank and cause additional holiday debt!):

* Give compliments
* Text/email someone you haven't talked to in a while - just to let them know you're thinking of them
* Offer to walk a neighbour's dog
* Shovel someone's snow
* Hold the door open for the next person

If you have time to spare, it can often turn out to be someone's treasured memory

Why muddle through what's said to be the worst season ever (cold, dark winter nights with no more largely-celebrated holidays to look forward to) when you can keep the party going with TK's Gingerbread (Faux) Latte?

Here's the recipe, because I love you all a latte 😁

INGREDIENTS:

* 1 cup plant-based milk of your choice
* 1 tbsp molasses
* 1/2 tsp cinnamon
* 1/4 tsp ginger
* 1/8 tsp nutmeg

DIRECTIONS:

Heat all ingredients together, whisking well. Strain if needed, pour into a mug, and add toppings.

Brrrr, who wants a warm drink that doesn't contain caffeine? I got ya!

This is a yummy concoction I whipped up, using the best warming spices and my favourite plant-based milk. Try it and let me know how it goes:

Cozy up this winter with this creamy, spiced and riced drink! :D

INGREDIENTS:

* 1/4 cup cooked basmati rice
* 1.5 cups almond milk
* 1/2 cup water
* 1-2 medjool dates
* 1/2 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each of cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, and cloves
* 1/2 tsp vanilla & pinch of salt

DIRECTIONS:
1️) Blend all ingredients until smooth.
2️) Heat on the stove until warm.
3️) Pour into a mug.
4) Top with additional cinnamon

✨ Sip, savor, and stay warm! ❄️

Anyone else having a SOUPER new years day? Make the best soups by:

* Starting with a flavourful base - using either homemade or a high quality store-bought stock
* Create a mirepoix by sautéing onion, garlic, celery and carrots before adding the stock - the flavours are simply magical!
* Season and taste throughout the cooking process
* Use what's in season - so think squashes :)
* Adding a splash of "sour" can lighten up many soups - use balsamic vinegar or lemon juice after your soup has been removed from the heat (I'd say wait a minute or two, otherwise the lemon juice will turn bitter)
* Add depth to a soup by incorporating miso paste or worcestershire sauce
* Garnish with fresh herbs (mmmm, I LOVE spring onion)

Time for an end-of-the-year wellness check? Good grief, where did 2024 go? LOL, urmmm, that wasn't actually one of my "reflection questions"...

But you may want to take some time before the new year hits to check in on what happened this year. Ask yourself questions like:

* Am I getting enough sleep?
* Am I getting enough movement?
* Are there any areas in my life where I need to pay more attention to in 2025?
* How have my eating habits supported my energy and mood this year?
* Do I need to let anything go to live more healthfully?
* What am I grateful for right now?

What questions are on YOUR reflection list?
