Students Facing Noma Queen's

Students Facing Noma Queen's Student’s facing Noma serves to raise awareness and funds to fight the disease Noma through supporting the organization Facing Africa.

SFN Queen’s is one of the first opportunities in Canada to fundraise for Noma victims. Students Facing Noma is a student run initiative at Queen’s University which fundraises and raises awareness for the charity Facing Africa. Facing Africa is an established organization that raises funds to send teams of highly skilled and experienced volunteer surgeons to Africa each year, to perform facial reco

nstructive surgery on those affected by noma. Noma is an opportunistic gangrene infection, enhanced by conditions of extreme poverty. In early stages, the infection can be treated with mild antibiotics and nutritional rehabilitation. However, if left untreated, it will develop into a progressively increasing hole that severely disfigures its victims. Children under the age of 6 are the primary victims, with a mortality rate of 90%. For more information about Noma and Facing Africa: www.facingafrica.org
