We work together with our communities to promote health, prevent illness and injury, and protect the well-being of all. About us

What users can expect from SEPH social media accounts

SEPH uses social media to communicate timely, evidence-informed public health information to individuals, organizations, and communities across Southeast Ontario. Our accounts are monitored during regular business hours (8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, excluding holidays). During emergencies, monitoring and posting may occur outside of these hours. SEPH strives to respond to public inquiries within one business day. Expectations for users

By engaging with SEPH social media accounts, users agree to the following:

Taking responsibility for their actions and comments. Refraining from posting personal health information or confidential data. Avoiding disrespectful, abusive, hateful, or defamatory content. Refraining from posting spam, misinformation, or promotional content without authorization. We do not provide personal medical advice

Interaction with any SEPH social media account does not create a therapeutic relationship with any SEPH employee. Any action taken by a user of the service in response to information obtained from SEPH social media accounts is at the service user’s full discretion. The information from SEPH social media accounts must not be relied upon to replace or overrule a licensed health care professional’s judgment or clinical diagnosis. Comment moderation

SEPH reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to monitor, review, hide, or remove any content posted to its social media platforms at any time and without notice. This includes, but is not limited to, content that is:

obscene, sexually explicit, or otherwise inappropriate for a public health audience;

misleading, fraudulent, or in violation of applicable laws, including the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Canadian Criminal Code;

infringing upon intellectual property rights; and/or

spam, solicitation, or unauthorized commercial promotion. Privacy

SEPH is committed to respecting the privacy rights of individuals who interact with our social media accounts and complies with applicable legislation, including the Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA) and the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Personal health information: SEPH does not actively collect personal health information through social media platforms. Any personal information voluntarily shared in public comments, messages, or posts may become visible to others and is not protected under health privacy laws while on third-party platforms. Users are strongly discouraged from sharing personal health information in these spaces. Analytics: SEPH may collect non-identifiable analytics data (e.g., post reach, engagement, demographic trends) provided by social media platforms. This information is used only to evaluate and improve communication effectiveness. Inquiries: Inquiries about personal health concerns will not be addressed publicly. Individuals will be redirected to secure communication channels (e.g., phone, email, or in-person) for assistance. Third-party platforms: SEPH has no control over, and assumes no responsibility for, how third-party platforms collect, use, or disclose personal information. Users are encouraged to review the privacy policies of each platform before engaging. Records: Direct messages or inquiries requiring follow-up may be referred to SEPH staff for response. Documentation of the original request and the agency’s reply is retained in accordance with applicable privacy laws. License to use content

No warranty

Neither SEPH nor its content or service providers guarantee or warrant the social media platform against errors, defects, delays, omissions, interruptions or losses, including losses of data, nor are any files downloaded from the agency’s social media platforms warranted or guaranteed to be free of viruses, bugs, worms or other such destructive properties. Platform access

SEPH reserves the right to monitor, restrict, block, suspend, or discontinue access to the social media platform, at any time, with or without advance notice, and for any reason or no reason at all. Legal disclosure

SEPH may disclose communications and activities with the social media platform in response to lawful requests by governmental authorities, judicial orders, warrants or subpoenas, or for the protection of the agency’s rights, and in doing so shall not incur any liability. Indemnification

Users agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless SEPH, its officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, successors, and assigns from and against any and all claims, demands, actions, liabilities, losses, damages, judgments, settlements, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to:

the user’s violation of these Terms and Conditions;

any unlawful, infringing, defamatory, or harmful content posted by the user; and/or

the user’s misuse of SEPH social media platforms. This indemnification obligation shall survive termination of these Terms and Conditions and the user’s use of SEPH social media platforms. Platform changes

SEPH may suspend, change, or discontinue any aspect of the social media platform at any time. Waiver of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SEPH disclaims all liability for any damages, losses, or expenses of any kind, whether direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or punitive, arising from or in connection with use of its social media platforms. This includes, without limitation, damages resulting from:

service interruptions, errors, or delays;

unauthorized access to or use of user communications or submissions;

Users acknowledge and agree that their activities on SEPH social media platforms are subject to the policies and monitoring practices of the platform providers, and may also be accessible to law enforcement and other regulatory authorities. SEPH does not control such monitoring and accepts no responsibility for third-party oversight or enforcement activities. Jurisdiction

By using this social media platform, users of the service agree to be bound by the laws of the Province of Ontario respecting any legal proceedings brought against SEPH by virtue of having this social media platform. Third-party content

SEPH does not control, endorse, or assume responsibility for any third-party content, advertising, or links that may be accessible through its social media platforms. May is Sexual Violence Prevention Awareness Month. Sexual violence has serious impacts on individuals, families, and communities.

Everyone deserves to feel safe and free from violence. Southeast Public Health is proud to be part of the See It. Name It. Change It! campaign. Together, we can create safer communities for everyone.

The See It. Name It. Change It! campaign empowers individuals to take action against intimate partner violence (IPV). By identifying, calling out, and challenging IPV, we can work together to stop it in our communities.

Think of it like the fire safety rule we all know: Stop, Drop, and Roll. It’s simple and easy to remember.

When you see intimate partner violence and name it by calling it out, you’re already taking the first step toward change.

It’s simple. It’s powerful. And it’s something we can all do.
