Indigenous Spirits programs and services include Traditional teachings, Traditional individual counselling, group counselling, Ceremonies, Cultural activities, and seasonal Land-based healing program throughout the year. Emphasis is placed upon personal development so youth can restore health, happiness, well-being, and a balanced lifestyle to meet life's challenges, make positive choices and to succeed academically and as they transition into adulthood. A key element of the programs will be guided by the Traditional approach of the Knowledge Keepers/ Traditional Therapists, Elders, Ceremonialists, Cultural Support Workers, and local Cultural Specialists as they guide and support the youths’ learning and personal development with a focus on the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical development. Youth will participate by learning, experiencing, and practicing traditional pursuits. Working towards an outcome of understanding how land-based activities can nurture a healthy lifestyle as an alternative to many of the high risk behaviour(s) youth may be exposed to. Youth learn about Woodland Cree and family histories, human behaviour(s), how to relate to others, how to trust and be trustworthy, and how to share and care for others. They will be taught the traditional teachings surrounding roles and responsibilities and culturally appropriate behaviour(s) and practice(s). Youth will also learn how to respond to life's choices equipped with positive personal values and principles, effective coping and communication skills, resiliency building, and an understanding of healthy relationships including the importance of their role in “family”. They will gain an understanding of interpersonal boundaries, how to make better decisions in life and self advocacy. Youth will always be given opportunities to learn about the diversity of traditional knowledge and culture. Every young person will be provided opportunities to assume leadership roles and will be allowed room to explore their newly acquired strengths.
