Explanation post!!
If you saw our last post you may be asking, well what is she thinking? What does she mean by convenience or improvement? I’ll give you one example.
Like many of you, I compete and my horse is my top priority. My main mount is a 14 year old gelding named Denali (who you may recognize as that big beautiful chestnut with all the chrome 😍😏) and truth be told, pretty as he is he comes with many ailments. He’s a bleeder, he’s neurotic and he’s navicular, but one of our biggest issues is he’s a massive overreacher.
His stride is incredible, he doesn’t look like he should clock like he does but that also goes to show how much heart he has for the sport we both love. That being said, normal boots do not work for him. That space between where the bell boots and splint boots meet is his favourite spot to connect with and it makes it dangerous to run him without proper protection.
In 2019 I started running in combo boots, which helped a TON with both of our confidences knowing he wasn’t going to hurt himself every run. This quickly turned into boots breaking after just two runs, which is just not feasible. Then one of my closest friends had the idea to sew reinforcement patches of harness leather onto the heel and fetlock spots of the boots followed by rundown patches inside the heels. To this day they are the only front boots I can run him in.
Now this is where my mind goes to how many others are dealing with similar issues? I was recently informed that Prof Choice is no longer producing combo boots, which is a very big concern for us. I want to produce ‘Denali’s Version’ of protection in a boot to help those with the same concerns for their equine partner, without breaking the bank. This is just the beginning of what I’m sure will be a long journey of trials and fine tuning, but I’m determined to provide a product that can help ease the minds of those dealing with similar issues ♥️
PS: thank you so much for all the kind words on the last post, you are all so appreciated!!
