Too many of us have been there - wounds inflicted by words and actions (or inaction) by the people we counted on most.
Judgemental attitudes.
Leadership failures.
The place that was supposed to be a refuge turns out to be the source of pain that often goes unspoken.
Worse, we start to doubt our faith and wonder about a God who has such a messed up family.
Healing is not a linear path and looks different for everyone, but it will require vulnerability and honesty. If you need a space with no judgement to work out church hurt, consider reaching out to set up a consult call to see if I would be a good fit. www.frontporchcounselling.com

In the sacred space between disappointment and divine intervention, there lies a story woven by God's hand—a narrative of grace, redemption, and unwavering faith. Yet, it's essential to leave room for the rawness of our feelings, the authenticity of our doubts, and the vulnerability of our hearts.

As we navigate the entanglement of disappointment, let's remember that faith isn't about denying our humanity, but rather embracing it in its entirety. It's about holding onto hope even when the road ahead seems shrouded in uncertainty.

Having a good fit in the client-therapist relationship plays a critical role in the success of the client in addressing their issues. Research consistently shows that the quality of the relationship between the therapist and client is one of the primary predictors of client progress in counselling.
Look for a therpist who feels like a personal fit as well as a fit of approach and methods. Do you feel comfortable and heard? Are you making progress? Do you feel you can trust your therapist, and is there a mutual feeling of respect?
As a client you have the right to try out counsellors to find one that suits you. Therapists are aware of the importance of this factor and ultimately want you to be successful and thrive in counselling…even if it isn’t with them.

“I went to counselling once, and the counsellor just wanted to teach me to breathe” 😂 I’ve heard this more than once, and while counselling is MUCH more than learning to breathe, in order to move forward from a regulated place your body and brain need to know that it’s safe to do so. There are lots of ways to communicate safety to your nervous system, and this is a great place to start!

Anxiety can feel like a dark cloud, following you everywhere.

This cloud can make everything feel heavy and overwhelming. It blocks the sunshine and makes it hard to see the bright and happy things in life.

But just like clouds in the sky, anxiety will also pass.

I’m here to help empower you with the tools and strategies needed to let the sun peek through the clouds and bring back the light and joy in your life again.

Your body & mind are seriously incredible. They team up to shape the awesome person you are… and everyone is totally different. (That blows my mind, honestly.)

Here’s the deal: life isn't just about extremes. It’s about discovering the sweet spot in the middle. You know, the place where everything feels just right.

For me, I'm always striving to find that middle ground. I aim to strike a balance and stay right there. That sweet spot where things feel just right? It feels like home, and no matter how different you and me and every other person are, that’s a feeling worth working towards.

Sometimes when we feel trapped with a problem, all we can think about is finding a solution. Sound familiar?

We forget to pause and dig to the root of the problem, asking ourselves why it bothers us so much.

What if we flipped the perspective? Let's embrace curiosity and take a moment to explore our feelings.

As human beings, we have a wide range of emotions for a reason. Feeling sadness, anger, or frustration is natural and can provide valuable insights. By ignoring or pushing away these emotions, we miss out on opportunities for growth.

Instead of only focusing on the problem, let's look into the 'why' behind our emotions. What triggered this response?

When we genuinely understand the root causes of our feelings, we can gain valuable insights that will allow us to heal and move forward.

If 10-years ago you had to live a day in your life today, would they be able to do it? I’m guessing it would be pretty tough.

Every time you have a hard moment, or hour, or day, you’re building up your resilience.

💭 What’s the heaviest problem on your mind, right now? Who are the supportive people in your life? If one of them faced the same problem, what advice would you give?

There’s your advice. Believe in yourself, my friend!

I've personally experienced the impact of counselling — and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s changed my life.

Sometimes our thoughts get tangled up in our heads, making it hard to think through things and find clarity. That’s when Narrative Therapy comes to the rescue! It helps us view our problems as separate entities, follow their storyline, and reconnect with our own story.

But my MOST favourite thing about Narrative Therapy? It allows us to see the problem as just that: a problem!

We follow its storyline, trace its history, and find our own voice.

It's all about remembering our story and how it connects with the bigger story of our lives in God's grand narrative. I absolutely love that! What a fantastic reflection of who we are and the incredible journey we're on.

Are you worried seeking help could affect your integrity, self-confidence, or how others view you in your community?

The truth is, seeking help through therapy is not a sign of weakness, but a powerful act of strength. Counselling offers a safe and confidential space where you can be your authentic self, sharing your thoughts and emotions without fear of judgment.

Rather than losing anything, you have everything to gain.

You gain:

💭 Self-awareness, discovering the intricate depths of your being.

🩹 Healing, as therapy allows you to explore and work through past wounds, traumas, or challenges that may be holding you back.

⚙️ Invaluable tools to navigate life's ups and downs, equipping you with the skills to overcome obstacles and find resilience.

You might’ve been taught for your whole life to love God & others. (Me too.)

So when it comes to showing yourself that same love, it feels selfish or entitled. But believe me, caring for mental and emotional health is far from being selfish — it's an absolute necessity!

To be fully present for others, you need to take care of your own well-being. And it doesn’t have to be hard!

The easiest way to do this is by tuning into your emotions. They're incredible, God-given messengers, telling us when our boundaries have been crossed or when our values have taken a hit.

If you find your boundaries have been crossed, ask yourself this question:

✨ Can I adjust my boundaries or reassess our values?

If the answer is no, it's time to work on your feelings and align them with what truly matters to you!

Admitting you need counselling takes a truckload of courage… and then some.

It's totally normal to have concerns and questions swirling in your mind. What if counselling makes me feel worse? Are things bad enough for me to see a counsellor? What if my partner judges me? What if people find out and think I’m a crazy person? (PS. You aren’t crazy.)

Here's the truth: counselling is a safe space for healing and growth. If that’s something that interests you, then finding a counsellor is a great idea — and there’s absolutely NOTHING that’s negative about committing to your well being and personal growth. Good for you!
