What I Love About Being an MTA:
I love how you can truly create your own version of this career path and shape it around your values and beliefs. It’s so adaptable, accessible, and flexible. Being an MTA makes me feel like I can show up for anyone, no matter their situation, because each client and I get to pave a new path in the music therapy world together—and make it our own. I love creating spaces where people can be their authentic selves ❤️

I mean… it’s rural Nova Scotia—what’s not to love? Lol! But truly, it’s beautiful, it’s deeply connected, and it’s home ❤️

March is Music Therapy Awareness Month! Music Therapy is an intervention used by certified Music Therapist within therapeutic relationships, that can provide cognitive, physical, spiritual, social and emotional support.

We're pleased to support Shoreham Village Continuing Care Facility Between The Mountains Music Therapy project through our Community Grants Program. Music Therapy supports the seniors' overall needs for health and wellbeing, fostering person-centered care. The Music Therapist offers a variety of interventions based on the needs of the residents - singing, music games, guided relaxation, movement, song writing and sensory stimulation. Participants may use a tambourine or shakers, sing, tap their toes or just listen.

The benefits of Music Therapy are evident through decreased negative behaviours, increased positive moods and an overall personal well being.

“I like when we have music therapy — it makes me happy.”

Your support helps fund programs like this across Nova Scotia — bringing connection, compassion, and care to communities.

Donate today to help us continue supporting life-changing programs like music therapy: www.mentalhealthns.ca/donate

In one image, she sits in front of residents in wheelchairs playing a guitar. Other images show close, one-on-one interactions — holding hands while singing and playing instruments like a tambourine. ]

March is Music Therapy Awareness Month! 🎶💛

Music deserves space for advocacy.
Music therapy is more than listening to music—it is a clinical, evidence-based profession that uses music intentionally to support health and well-being.

Throughout Music Therapy Awareness Month, I’ll be sharing information about music therapy across different populations, settings, and needs. If there are specific areas you’d like me to speak more about, please let me know—I’d be happy to share.

Let’s spread the love for the arts as much as we can, because the arts are worth it. 💛🎨🎶

🎶 Day 12 of my Daily Videos as a Music Therapist 🎶
Today I’m sharing an interactive intervention I created using B-I-N-G-O 🐶🎵
It’s a simple way to turn a familiar song into something more engaging, educational, and adaptable — whether you’re a music therapist, teacher, caregiver, or using it at home.
Small changes can make a big difference in participation, learning, and connection 💜

🎶 Day 11 of my music therapy february challenge🎶
Come along with me while I prep a bunch of music therapy interventions ✨
From creating visuals, to using my go-to resources and subscriptions that make day-to-day planning easier, this is a little peek into how I build sessions that are adaptable, accessible, and client-centered.
Sometimes therapy prep looks creative, sometimes messy — but it’s always intentional 💜
