Hello to all new here!

I'm Masiel, a sleep consultant who helps tired parents teach their children to sleep. I work with ages from 15 weeks to 10 years old! I have two girls +30 weeks pregnant with a boy and my oldest is who led me on this sleep coaching journey. She didn't sleep through the night or wouldn’t even nap until we sleep trained her, after trying all other techniques, advice, and books.

Sleep coaching gave my family structure and flexibility, we started enjoying my baby as we were rested and more ready to respond to her, instead of reacting. And the most amazing part for us, is to see these healthy sleep habits grow with her and her sister. They are now 6 and 4 years old.

This week I started working with a 7-month-old, 5-month-old, and 2 years old.

I’ll be coaching them through:
💤 Nap transition
🕧 Early awaking
💤 Waking up several times during the night

I’m honoured to help these parents with a customized solution to bring peace into their lives!
What do you want for your family?

If your child has a healthy snack before bed, it can actually help them stay asleep longer! That might mean you can avoid an earlier morning wake-up call! 😉

The following are some things to consider as good bedtime snack options.

🥛 Dairy - Yogurt, milk, and cheese can make good bedtime snack options. Dairy products have something called tryptophan, and this is what our bodies use to make melatonin naturally.

🍌 Bananas - All kinds of fruit make good bedtime snacks for kids, especially bananas! Bananas have potassium and magnesium, which help promote healthy, high-quality sleep.

🥣 Oatmeal - Oatmeal is warm, soothing, and filling. It’s like a healthy comfort food pre-bedtime. Add a bit of fruit or nuts for extra nutrients and to pack a powerful punch.

🍒 Cherry smoothie - Cherries are thought to increase melatonin levels naturally, like many other foods mentioned.

🥚 Hardboiled egg - Eggs are filled with protein and filling enough without being too much for a bedtime snack.

It doesn’t have to be a lot of work to create a great pre-bedtime snack, and it can help your child get additional nutrients, allowing them to sleep blissfully through the night. 😌

Is your child experiencing nightmares or night terrors?
SWIPE ➡️ to read the top 3 causes!

❗️Nightmares
Nightmares are scary dreams that often happen during the second half of the night when dreaming is most intense. They tend to peak between 3 and 12 years old. Children may wake up crying or feeling afraid and may have trouble falling back to sleep.
• Go to your child as quickly as possible.
• Assure them they are safe.
• Allow them to keep a dim light on if it makes them feel better.
• Once your child is ready, encourage them to go back to sleep.

❗️Night terrors
Night terrors occur most often in toddlers and preschoolers. They take place during the deepest stages of sleep. Deepest sleep is usually early in the night, often before parents' bedtime.
During a night terror, your child might:
• Cry uncontrollably
• Sweat, shake or breathe fast
• Scream, kick or stare
• Not recognize you or realize you are there
While night terrors can last as long as 30 minutes, most are much shorter. Most children fall right back to sleep after a night terror because they actually have not been awake. Unlike a nightmare, a child will not remember a night terror.

Is a sleep sack part of your little one's bedtime routine? 💤

Most parents use swaddles to start; however, once a baby shows signs of rolling over on their own (which can be as early as two months), the swaddle is no longer the safest option.

Around two months old is when infants tend to roll onto their stomachs. If they do this while in a swaddle, they will be unable to use their arms to roll back, which increases the chance of suffocation. This is where sleep sacks come in handy!

If a sleep sack isn't part of your baby's night routine, swipe through and save this post for 6 reasons you might want to consider incorporating one.

1. Little feet and toes won't get caught in the crib rails.
2. It makes the transition from a swaddle and soother easier on the baby.
3. It signals to your little one that it's time to sleep.
4. It keeps your baby feeling warm, cozy, secure, and safe.
5. It reduces the risk of suffocation while they sleep.
6. It helps to prevent your child from climbing out of the crib.

Easy on yourself Mama ❤
Let's normalize that we cannot control everything around our little one's sleep.

🖤You can work on:
- Awake windows: To meet that sweet spot where your baby can fall asleep without being overtired.
- Routine: Follow the Awake-Eat-Play strategy.
- Sleep environment: Dark, proper temperature, and no distractions
- Your energy: Have a plan that allows you to respond instead of reacting.

❌Out of your control:
- Sleep regressions
- Sickness
- Developmental Milestones

Take time to understand your child's ways of communicating so that you can help him become a better sleeper.

👉If you have concerns, don't hesitate to ask for help!

Get ready for the time change! 🍂⏰🍂

Here comes the time again when our clocks fall back an hour and many babies now start their days at 5 am.

Most people require up to one full week to adjust to any time change, and children are no exception.

SAVE this post to remember WeeSleep's approved tips to help your little ones with the transition:

#1 - Start 3-4 days before the time changes, bump naps and bedtime forward 30 minutes. i.e. if your child normally naps at 12:00 p.m., push the nap to 12:30 p.m., if bedtime is normally at 7:00 p.m. push it to 7:30 p.m. On the day time changes put them to bed at 7:00 p.m. which would have been 8:00 pm before.

#2 - Just go straight and shift your child cold turkey to the new time change. Following the example above, you will put your child to bed at 7:00pm on Sunday and manage the possible over tiredness.

Whatever you choose remember that like every year, you will get through 🙌, and the little ones will adjust their body clock fairly quickly.

When can I introduce items like snuggly buddies, pillows, and blankets into my baby’s crib?

You may be tempted to design in and around your baby's crib with a certain style or "aesthetic" by adding blankets and toys, but we always recommend that the crib STAY BORING!

➡️ There are two reasons for this:

1. The main reason for this is that we want the crib to be for SLEEP and not for play. Little ones can easily get distracted by having too much in their beds, and sometimes, throwing the stuffies/pillow/blankets out of the bed can even become a game.

If this happens, remember – if they want to make it a game, it’s going to be the most boring game there is! Simply walk into the room, place the item back into their crib, and leave again, with minimal interaction. Eventually, they’ll get bored and give up. 😉

2. It can become a safety issue.
✔️ You can introduce a snuggle buddy earlier on, but we’d hold off on introducing a thin blanket or toddler pillow until they’re in a “big bed.” If you’re worried your child may be cold, we suggest investing in a warmer sleep sack. They are available in sizes up to a 5T!

Safe sleep is our number one priority! 🤍

There is a fine line between tired signs and late tired signs. Ideally, you want to follow aged appropriate awake window to put your baby down before he hits the overtiredness mark.

Babies display very distinctive tired signs when you know what to look for. When you start noticing some sleep cues, get your quick naptime routine going and put baby down.

As your baby grows, sometimes it gets more confusing to maintain a proper sleep schedule.
