Why you should enter a race or competition 🏃🏻

I usually run and workout alone and I enjoy it.

However yesterday I ran a 10k race - just for fun and curiousity.

Old me would say: 'What's the point, I run this distance on my own anyways' 🤷🏻

But I surprised myself at how much fun I had and how much easier the race was than my practice runs. 🥳

The camaraderie, the energy from others, the joint goal and purpose. You can't get that on your own.

If you haven't entered a race or a competition before, I encourage you to try even once. The distance, your time and speed don't matter. It will be a unique experience and I think you might surprise yourself at how much fun it can be.

✍️ Have you felt this before when doing something with a group vs solo? 👇🏻

Is there anything wrong with this meal? 💬

Some may say, it's too processed, high in salt, too many fats, too many carbs, not enough protein, it's fast food etc etc.

But actually, NOTHING! ❌

Fact is, we also need to live our lives. Younger me turned down evenings with friends and meals out because I was being 'strict' with my diet. There's nothing wrong with that if you have specific goals you're working towards but I was just doing it because I thought that was the 'right' thing to do. I had a broken relationship with food.

⛽️ Food is fuel, food is also how we experience life and different cultures. You don't need to label foods as good or bad. You can be healthy and still have fun with your meals.

💡 For most of us, if 80% of our food is nutrient dense and minimally processed then the other 20% can be more flexible

When is the last time you caught yourself feeling guilty around what you ate?

What does progress look like ⁉️

Well it’s different for everyone! 🧑‍🤝‍🧑

It takes time and everyone’s journey is different.

Try to remember that comparison is the thief of joy 💭

Try to not compare your journey to anyone else’s.

Focus on being better than yourself the day before. Similar to weights in the gym. You don’t go from lifting 5lbs to 100lbs in a month. How will progress in other areas be any different? 🤔

Stay patient. Stay consistent 🎉

9️⃣ physiological adaptations caused by exercise 💪🏼

1️⃣ Skill & Technique - teaches us how to move better and more efficiently.
2️⃣ Speed - moving at a higher velocity.
3️⃣ Power - Speed multiplied by force.
4️⃣ Strength - what is the maximum amount of force can you produce one time. Think of an all out effort
5️⃣ Muscular Hypertrophy - size and growth of muscles
6️⃣ Muscular endurance - ex. how many push-ups/sit-ups can you do in 1 minute
7️⃣ Anaerobic capacity - How much work can you do in a short time frame (1-2mins)
8️⃣ Maximal aerobic capacity - Maximal heart rate at your VO2 max
9️⃣ Steady state training - How long can you sustain consistent pace of work (for 20-60mins or more)

🙋‍♀️ Are you familiar with some/all of these? Do you know how your exercise and training plan affects these based on your goals?

✍️ Drop me a line and I can help you create a plan that aligns with the adaptations you want to make 💯
