7 years ago, I shared this on Facebook. I was 33 weeks pregnant, not sleeping, and super frustrated that the only advice ever given for pregnancy insomnia amounted to “you have a hard time sleeping, so try to get some sleep.” Could we, collectively, as a society, frigging stop that?

Last call for my newborn baby care class! I only have a couple spaces left! We will be focusing on getting comfortable with skills like bathing, feeding, and swaddling, as well as going over updated safety recommendations because HOOO BOY there is a lot of information and almost none of it is readily available.

Visit www.simplyloveddoula.ca/baby-class to register and I’ll see you on Saturday!

I know you mean well. I know you’re sending flowers because you want to say congratulations and/or you’re thinking of them. But please, I beg. Spend your money on something more useful.

So many parents find themselves alone with their baby for the first time and think “oh my god, did my midwife (or the nurses) know that I don’t know what I’m doing? Whose idea was this??” Newborn care is a topic unto itself, which is why I’m giving this opportunity to come and learn some valuable skills.
Prepare for postpartum as much as you prepare for your birth.

It’s not just about comforting the baby! It’s about learning how YOU can best comfort the baby, practicing that, being comfortable with it, and building a bond with your child. It may be harder at first, but it’s worth the time it takes to build the skills and the bond 🩵

✨Introducing✨ My new baby care class! This is for anyone who is expecting a baby and would like to develop skills to care for a newborn.
👶
When I was pregnant, I was working as a nanny. I had been a nanny for a few years by that point, and everyone kept telling me that I’d be “just fine” caring for a newborn baby because I had “so much experience.” Once my daughter was born, my nurse in the hospital kept saying “oh but you already know this” FALSE. Newborns are their own special category and they are SCARY. 🫣 They’re wiggly potatoes with an alarm that goes off when they’re unhappy. I didn’t know how to swaddle, feed, or bathe her. Now I’m a bit of a baby whisperer and I want to pass on my skills and knowledge to you!
👩‍🍼
Enter, the Simply Loved Baby Care Class. You will learn practical skills like swaddling and bathing with hands-on techniques. You’ll learn what to do when the alarm goes off (aka when they cry). You’ll learn how to handle your own emotions when things are overwhelming!
👶
Plus! Every family will receive a copy of my mental health booklet, From Chaos to Calm: An emotional SOS for new parents.

The song choice here is intentional 😂 Are you listening?? (Edit: I forgot that Facebook doesn’t post with the song attached like IG does. Oops) Don’t touch your pregnant family members unless they offer first. If the new parents at your holiday gathering don’t want you to hold the baby, or ask you to sanitize your hands first, just do that. Also bring them muffins to take home. Trust me.
