It’s been a busy past few months trying to finish up all my clinic requirements since graduation is around the corner! 😅

I just wanted to share an extraction I did in the clinic the other day! Although this root canal lasted the patient for many decades, the tooth recently cracked, developed infection, and had to be removed🥴

With clinic finally reopening this coming week, it’s time for me to get motivated and finish up some treatment planning! 😅🤫

Here you can see me working on a radiographic interpretation for one of my comprehensive patients! Essentially, I’m looking for what is normal and what is abnormal in the X-rays in order to help me during treatment planning for this patient. ⚡️📷

The first time I ever looked critically at an X-ray, I found it really difficult to figure out what’s going on...it just seemed like a bunch of shadows 🥵 even though I’m in 3rd year, I’m still not an expert by any means, but I’m slowly getting more comfortable🤞🏻🙂

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a relaxing weekend. I started the week off extracting a maxillary canine, first and second premolar for a patient treatment planned to receive complete dentures. It was a great experience and the patient was amazing too!! 😊👏🏼

Today’s appointment showed me I’m definitely going to need to start working out again if I’m going to be taking more teeth out soon!! Haha, it’s definitely tiring work, especially when extracting multiple teeth in the same appointment 🦾🏋🏼‍♂️

➡️ UPDATE!!!! ➡️ This was an exciting week because after waiting over a month, my first lab case came back and it was a few days early 🥳🤩

It’s been a tough past couple of weeks trying to balance clinic hours with all the online learning, but I know it’ll be worth it in the end 🥴

Next week is going to be pretty busy as well and my clinic partner and I have a few patients coming in starting early Monday morning!! Hopefully everything goes well🤞🏻😁

For the past couple of weeks, we have been spending a lot of time working on lectures for various courses, in sim clinic, and even more time in main clinic with our patients. 😷🦷
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I did manage to stop and take this quick video in our fixed prosthodontics class last week. We’ve been learning how to make fixed partial dentures (bridges) over the past couple weeks and this was my first time making a temporary restoration spanning this long! Last year we only had to prepare one tooth and only made one unit provisional restorations! So now it’s at least double the work, but the final result is so worth it. It’s crazy to think that it’s only a matter of time until I’m doing this on a real patient 🥴

Last week I was in clinic a lot and had long days, but this week hasn’t been as hectic for me. This is a good thing because I desperately need to catch up on this weeks lectures 🤯🤭

It’s hard to believe our clinic orientation is over and we’re already going to be seeing patients next week!! 🤯😱

Time has really flown by this past week but it’s been good to learn some new techniques and procedures, as well as some useful skills like suturing! We were supposed to learn how to suture last year, but since everything transitioned online due to COVID, we had to push it off till this week. 😕 I’ll definitely be practicing more at home before I have to suture in oral surgery!! 😅🔪

It’s hard to believe summer has come and gone! Although it’s been nice to have some time off, it’ll be great to get back to dentistry to keep practicing and learning! 🤩🤞🏻

Tomorrow marks the start of my 3rd year at Schulich. We get our own patients this year and as exciting as it is, I’m also nervous! It’s not the manikin anymore!!🥴

I also want to congratulate the newly accepted class of 2024 who will be joining us this year!! You’ve definitely earned your place here and I know you’ll all fit in perfectly!! The next few years will fly by, so make sure you enjoy every second you can. 🤩🥳

I’ve been trying to spend the last month of summer outside as much as possible! I was lucky to have a break from the rain at the summit of Whistler mountain so I could use this photo as an excuse to catch my breath🌞🌈

Just like that, another week has come and gone. I hope everyone had a good one🤗

One of the tasks we had this week was to continue working on our night guard projects. Here you can see my partner using a facebow on me. Many of you are probably wondering what in the world that is and what it is doing on my face. 😂 A facebow is an apparatus that allows us to mount the upper cast on an articulator in the same 3D space as it is found on the patient. The series of metal bars in front of my face is the device that allows this transfer of information in the form of a facebow record. The whole reason we need this information is so the night guard can be made as accurately as possible in the lab, without the patient (me) even being present! Pretty cool stuff 😌⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Happy Friday everyone!! Today was the first of our introduction to oral surgery courses! We learned all about the different instruments and some techniques for simple extractions. In sim clinic, we simulate extractions on the dentoforms with wax, so they aren’t 100% realistic. That being said, the wax does an okay job at simulating the friction of the socket. 🦷🔧
