I’m sure many of you have seen the heartbreaking news — Marshawn Kneeland has died by su***de. Sadly, stories like this are becoming far too common.

In Canada, men are three times more likely to die by su***de than women. Yet, only about 30% of mental health services are used by men.

Our men are suffering in silence. They carry feelings of inadequacy, shame, sadness, anxiety, anger, stress, and burnout — often with no safe space to talk about it. Too many believe they have to figure it out alone.

Today, I attended a poetry slam at and witnessed such incredible courage, compassion, and community love. My daughter had told me about the event, and I went to show my support—but what I experienced went far beyond what I expected. I was deeply moved by the brave souls who stood up and shared their hearts through words.

Some moments that stayed with me:
✨ “You inspired me to share my words.”
✨ “My therapist told me when I struggled to speak, I should write.”
✨ “I usually keep my writing private.”
✨ “It’s time to share—now or never.”

The love and support in that room—for each other and for —was truly inspiring. What a beautiful community we have here in . 💛

Trying Therapy for the first time can be scary. Sometimes people don’t make the first appointment because they don’t know what to expect.

I want to share a little bit about the process.

The first thing you do, is book a free consultation with a few therapists. I suggest 2-3. This can be frustrating because you have to share your reason for seeking therapy 2-3 times, but this initial meeting is very valuable for both you and the therapist. It allows you to find someone who you are comfortable with right away. Does the therapist ask you questions, do they make you feel comfortable, is there a good rapport?

Once you choose a therapist and book your appointment, you will complete a consent form and Intake form. The intake form allows you to share a little about your history and why you are seeking support.

Your first appointment is really about going over the intake form, and you and your therapist having a conversation, allowing you both to build a connection. Everyone is different and moves at their own pace. You may have things bothering you that you just want to get off your chest the first session, or you may need time to feel that you trust your therapist. Either way, you call the shots.

A good therapist will make you feel seen, heard and valued right away.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

I have so much to be grateful for. I have love in my heart, love in my life, and amazing people to share that with. I live in a beautiful place, I do work that inspires me, two cats who make me smile everyday, a daughter who makes me proud.

Practicing gratitude is one of the best ways to invite abundance into your life. Here are a few journal prompts if you wish to write in your journal, or discuss with friends and family, or just speak the answers quietly to yourself:

That’s why I love using creativity in therapy — art, writing, anything creative! It gives teens another way to express what’s going on inside, without the pressure of “having the right words.”

Creative therapy can help them process emotions, build confidence, and develop healthier ways to cope — in a way that feels natural to them.
