Some Winter reflections from Morgan Harper Nichols:
Hey.
So, a lot
has happened
this year,
and yet, there is still
so much to do,
and then, there are
all the other things
you feel like
you SHOULD do,
but aren't sure you'll
be able to.
In this space,
I hope you know this is true:
any little space you create
to do nothing at all right now
matters more than you know.
Even if it's just
for a few minutes.
And there's some risk in that
because this might mean
not every single text gets answered,
not every item on your checklist
gets marked "complete",
not every single expectation placed on you
will be something you're able to meet,
but through it all,
you are a human being
who has made it through
so many things
and it still
matters
when you make room
to just be
(even if it takes time to see it that way).
Yes, the world is lined with questions,
but it is lined with horizon lines
and tree lines too -
bold reminders at the edges
of our current landscape
that we must continue
making room
to rest,
to breathe,
to be.
So even if it's only for a moment
I hope you feel free
to sit on the couch,
sleep in,
or look out the window
and stare up at the trees.
And I hope you don't feel
like you need to get more done
before you get to experience
these things.
Here's to discovering
what it means for you
to do nothing at all
no matter how small.
And here's to creating room
to breathe
over and over again.
