When there’s tension or misalignment in the jaw whether from clenching, TMJ dysfunction, or altered bite it changes head posture. Your body compensates to keep balance, often by tilting the pelvis or shifting your weight.

If your jaw is clenched, chances are your pelvic floor is either overactive or not firing properly. This affects posture, breath control, and how your nervous system regulates tension.

1. Jaw Clenching is a Postural Habit
Your jaw is wired to react under stress. The more it clenches, the more your head shifts forward, forcing your entire posture to compensate.

2. Tension Travels Down the Line
Stress in your jaw sends strain down your neck, spine, hips, and even your knees and feet. It never stays local.

3. Pelvic and Spinal Shifts Follow
When your jaw locks, your pelvis often tilts or rotates to restore balance. That can show up as back pain or one-sided hip tightness.

4. This Affects Every Step You Take
If the jaw is locked, breathing changes, balance is off, and your walking pattern breaks down. You feel it in your joints, but it starts at the top.

Most people don’t realize your jaw and pelvis are linked. Not just through posture or movement habits. Over time, these small changes can show up as chronic hip pain, pelvic instability, or forward head posture.
There’s also a functional link: the jaw and pelvic floor are both involved in how your body stabilizes the spine. They’re part of your core system.

Summer has a way of pulling us back into our bodies. The slower mornings, the sun on your skin, the barefoot walks, the moments when you finally exhale.

If you’ve been moving through life on autopilot, this is your invitation to unplug a little.
Say yes to the nap. Take the long way home. Breathe deeper.

This season is the perfect time to reconnect with your body, not because it needs to be “fixed,” but because it deserves to feel held, loved, and supported.

Let this be your reminder: relaxation is productive.

And you’re allowed to choose it, just because you want to.

The jaw is one of the most sensitive and reactive areas in the body, and it’s directly tied to your nervous system.

When you're under stress, your body shifts into a protective state (hello, fight or flight), and one of the first places this shows up is in the jaw. Clenching, grinding, tension — it’s often not just about the muscles. It's your nervous system doing its best to keep you safe.

The trigeminal nerve, which controls jaw movement and sensation, is one of the most powerful cranial nerves and plays a major role in your body's stress response. When this area is overactive or stuck, it can impact digestion, sleep, headaches, neck pain, and even pelvic floor tension.

So when we talk about jaw work, we’re not just releasing tight muscles. We’re helping calm the entire nervous system from the top down.

What if the key to your hip tension... is in your jaw?

From the moment you’re developing in the womb, these two areas have been in a relationship. Through fascia, nerves, and even emotion, they mirror each other more than we realize.

Jaw tension showing up as hip tightness? Pelvic floor discomfort that won’t resolve no matter what you try? It’s not random.

Your body has its reasons and when we start listening to those deeper connections, that’s when real healing begins.

Want to explore what this means for your body? Message me. I’d love to chat.

How allergies and an injury turned into a career......

I’ve had allergies my entire life. MY. WHOLE. LIFE. It started with dairy products as an infant, then progressed to cats, scents, coconut, and fish as I got older. Some are mild, some moderate, one is extreme.

Learning how to avoid common triggers isn’t always easy as a child, so taking allergy pills was a weekly occurrence. Trying to find a job avoiding these triggers was harder. Working in the public exposed me to perfumes and scented lotions causing headaches, ‘flu- like symptoms, and sinus infections.... so I got a job in an insulation packing plant where I could wear a face mask and/or respirator on every shift. It was hard work and being a petite female made it even harder but I was determined to work twice as hard to prove I was just as good as the guys....and developed a repetitive strain injury less than a month into the job.

I was working 12 hour shifts doing the same movements day after day. One morning I woke up and my ring finger on my left hand was tingling. It soon spread to my pinkie finger and then ring and pinkie on my right hand as well. I was referred to a doctor who said I had carpal tunnel, an ER doctor told me there was nothing wrong/that he could do, a chiropractor to fix my crooked neck and back posture, and a massage therapist to loosen up my arms. NONE of them did any type of nerve tests to see where the problem was coming from or help alleviate the now searing pain that was shooting down the back of my left arm from armpit to fingers. Then I was sent to a chiropractor who specialized in A.R.T. and soft tissue injuries....

After 1-3 treatments a week for 6 months the problem was GONE. It required stretching 4x daily, bi-weekly massage, and weekly chiro appointments to keep the scar tissue from coming back and my problem from returning. I decided I wanted to help people like that and enrolled in the massage therapy program at Medicine Hat College in 2002. We learned physiology, pathology, orthopedics, biomechanics, and I discovered my love of Anatomy. Classes included lumbar assessments, abdominal massage, pre- and post- natal and labour and delivery massage, TMJD (Temporomandibular Joint Dysfunction) and MVA (Motor Vehicle Accident) treatments.... While there I was offered the chance to take an ‘Aromatherapy and the Therapeutic Uses of Essential Oils’ course as an add-on to my massage therapy training. “Essential oils can make your hands feel stronger and feel 3” deeper”. I was intrigued but skeptical since I was allergic to ‘scents’. It was here that I met a man who has since become my mentor in essential oils- Blaine Andrusek of Blaine Andrusek Phytotherapeutics based in Calgary, AB.
