DONATE A DOULA

Many families in our communities cannot afford a doula that they need. Even with a sliding scale that many doulas offer, paying for this important support can still break the bank for some.

Let’s work together to make birth support accessible to anyone who needs it. My goal is to raise $1000 or more to help at least one family by the end of the year.

HAPPY JULY!

I can’t believe it’s already the 4th. It was just March the other day 😩

Between classes, meetings, fun, prepping for Caribana, work and finding time to sleep, I feel like I’m barely staying on track 😅 Adulting is so hard sometimes.

Anybody have any big July plans or things you’re excited about this month?

CHOOSING YOUR DOULA

When you’re choosing your doula what is important to you?

Of course you’ll want someone who’s caring and knowledgeable and that you’ll feel comfortable around. You’ll want someone who’ll support your birth no matter what. Someone who’ll listen to your concerns. Someone who’ll be a resource to you and your family. These things are what every birther may think about while making their decision. But what else could they possibly want in a doula?

Some want a doula who understands their culture (religion, language and/or way of life). Some want a doula that has experience with those that may have disabilities. Some want the same doula for birth and postpartum. Some want a doula that thinks about the whole family. Some need a doula that is inclusive and will work with those in the LGBTQ+ community.

Everyone is different and wants different things. There can never be too many doulas.

WHAT’S UP THIS MONTH?

August is:

Breastfeeding Awareness Month & Vaginal Steaming Awareness Month.

What a great time to come back! We’re starting off the month with World Breastfeeding Week this week and ending the month with Black Breastfeeding Week.

Lots of information and education to come. Can’t wait!

EVERYONE ELSE IS ALREADY TAKEN

Authenticity will only help you in the long run. Disguising yourself as this perfect, super-human, know-it-all is such a waste of energy and people can tell when you’re not genuine.
As a doula, I feel like this is extra important because you’re entering other people’s lives at such a tricky time and it’s easier to focus on the role that you play if you’re not wearing a mask. Maybe you’ll be entering someone’s home. Maybe you’re seeing someone at what they feel is their worst. You’ll definitely be around people that are at their most vulnerable and they would only feel more uncomfortable with your hollow perfection.
Be yourself, even if it’s scary. You shining your light will improve your confidence and help others around you to do the same. 🤎
