Stress is a natural response of the body to challenging or threatening situations. While a moderate amount of stress can be helpful in some situations, chronic or excessive stress can lead to various physical and emotional symptoms.

How do we recognise stress?

1. Physical symptoms: Stress can cause physical symptoms such as headaches, muscle tension or pain, fatigue, chest pain, palpitations, digestive problems, and sleep disturbances.

2. Emotional symptoms: Stress can also affect your emotions and lead to symptoms such as anxiety, irritability, mood swings, restlessness, depression, and feeling overwhelmed.

3. Cognitive symptoms: Chronic stress can affect your Cognitive functioning and lead to symptoms such as forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating or making decisions, and negative self-talk.

4. Behavioural symptoms: Stress can also affect your behaviour and lead to symptoms such as social withdrawal, eating more or less than usual, procrastination, and increased use of drugs or alcohol.

It's important to note that everyone experiences stress differently, and the symptoms may vary from person to person. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms and they are affecting your daily life, it's important to seek help from a medical professional or mental health expert. There are many effective treatments available for managing stress, and with the right support, you can reduce your stress levels and improve your overall well-being.
