Ashwagandha is one of the most researched adaptogens for women in perimenopause, and one that I use often in the clinic.
Ashwagandha is a nutritive herb that has many actions, but is mainly used to:
✨ Support stress resilience and adrenal gland function
✨ Improve sleep quality (reduce nighttime waking)
✨ Impact hormones like thyroid and reproductive hormones (estrogen, progesterone, testosterone).
But here’s what is most important to know: Quality matters and can determine whether your ashwagandha actually works.
Look for:
✅ Standardized extracts that guarantee active withanolides (the key compounds that make it effective).
✅ Third-party testing to ensure purity (free of heavy metals, pesticides, and fillers).
✅ Clinical potency: around 300–600 mg/day of standardized extract.
My favourite product is Ashwagandha SAP. It checks all of the boxes and gives me the results that I am looking for.
