The Holidays!
The time of year where women want to look their best, but often wake up Christmas morning with dull, dry and puffy skin. Rosacea and acne prone skin tend to flare up as does eczema and psoriasis.
The reason for this is usually what we do the weeks before the holidays.
The parties
The alcohol
The stress
The late nights
The sugary retreats
The weather change
Cold and flu season
All of these things can upset the delicate micro biome of the skin as well as the gut. You see, they are connected and communicate with each other. This imbalance creates systemic inflammation, a change in the skin pH, vasodilation/ vessel constriction, sluggish lymphatic flow and dehydration.
To keep your glow here are a few tips.
1. Try to keep a set bedtime and wake up time. Sleep 6-8hours minimum.
2. Drink your damn water. If you have a hangover, add electrolytes first thing in the morning before your coffee.
3. Reduce alcohol intake as much as possible. Try a few mock-tails in between alcoholic drink drinks.
4. Keep your fiber and protein to optimum levels.
5. Add hyaluronic acid serums, and or creams in your skin care. Richer textures and ingredients like shea butter, oils and ceramides.
6. Go easy on the exfoliation during periods of cold dry weather.
7. Try to keep your exercise routine normal. If youโre too busy, light stretching and a walk is just fine.
8. Schedule some downtime to either nap or meditate do some breath work, read, whatever will bring your cortisol level down and help you chill out for a few hours each day.
9. Lay off of very active ingredients until your routine is back to normal. This is not the time to start a very strong retinol or acne program. Protecting the skin barrier will keep moisture in and reduce flaking, redness, and irritation.
10. If time and budget permits book yourself for a deep hydrating, relaxation facial, or a massage, sauna, Nordic spa something of this sort for some self pampering. Women take care of all the things during the holidays, and often forget themselves.
