It’s called red eyes ✈️😵‍💫 🌖🤣 I’ve been awake for over 30h now (not complaining here, just a fact). I just managed to do my intervals 🏃🏻‍♂️while waiting for my friends to arrive. Did it went well? Definitely not! My legs felt like wet towels, and in my 5min zone 4 part (fast pace) I hit the wall (broke) Stopped 25 sec to regain a bit of energy and got back to it! A 35 min session, half in a cute Amsterdam neighborhood, half in the forest around a lake. And no it’s not motivation, because I was at aboud a 1/10 level 🤣🤣 happy I’ve done it? 10/10 Super good to reset the clock and the digestive system 😜 Now time to eat!!!

Sunday run at the track. It took almost 6 years for my heart rate to stabilize. Even last year doing few body weight walking lunges would crank up my hr to 190bpm. My post surgery (2018) goal to run a 5km, which seamed like climbing Everest at the time. Today did a zone 2 (slow pace) 5 km like it was a warm up. Heart rate very stable throughout, for whatever reasons hr suddenly got way better in the last months. Few years back, I told myself that if I couldn’t stabilize my hr, it wouldn’t be from a lack of effort. I guess, like everything, consistency is the key! Choose a goal, stick to it, and see where it brings you! Thanks for the periodization during the process!

Cut in action! Back to teaching in a live format! It’s been few years, way to long! Great group, great interaction and questions. I wasn’t too rusty even though we had technical issues, no powerpoint, and I had to do everything using pen and whiteboard.

Ces discussions vont beaucoup me manquer…

Tu l’as longtemps hébergé.

73 médailles d’or
76 médailles d’argent
53 médailles de bronze

Rest in peace my friend, coach, and mentor! After a long illness, you left us this morning and your absence is already felt. I saw you two weeks ago, just before I left for Florida and you told me that you didn't think you had enough energy to see each other when I come back...unfortunately, you were right!

(If you have worked with me or attended one of my conferences in Quebec, you also know Yves. I've featured it often).

On the coach side, you had quite a phenomenal success (see cv at the end of this text)! You taught me a lot, like, always saying yes to an offer, because once you say no, you can't say yes afterwards, but if you say yes, you can often say no after.

You strongly encouraged me to buy my first Harley Davidson, because you said that it takes "toys" in life! Gotta keep playing!

You taught me not to wait to have full competence before trying a new project, but to go for it and learn along the way. Do not wait, take quickly advantage of opportunities

We had tons of discussions about training, coaching and of course travel! What about the constant teasing even in your most difficult moments of the last few months! Thank you for trusting me and letting me enter this solid shell that you have built for yourself during life. Every time I went to see you, you left me an email or a voicemail to remind me how much you enjoyed the time spent together. Those little thumbs up that mean so much… I'm going to miss those discussions a lot… I'm going to keep trying to make you proud!

You had helped Mary-Pier several years ago, which is also the reason why we met other than professionally. You have gave her a place to stay for a long time. You went to join her again, she's the one who's going to coach you now! You are two big pieces of my life gone in the last 6 months, we had fun together, please keep it up! Have fun!

Thanks for everything my friend! Rest in peace!

For his CV, here is a short summary:

In short track skating he’s been:
National coach of the Netherlands, Great Britain, France and of course Canada

Conferences and seminars in the following countries:

Canada, China, Hungary, Spain, France, Poland, Australia, Netherlands, Thailand, Turkey, New Zealand, Latvia, Russia, Malaysia, United States, Italy, Austria, Sweden, Slovenia, Czech Republic, and I on the way…

Only as a national coach of Canada, he won with his athletes:
(Including World Championships and Olympics)

101 medals for women
102 medals for men

73 gold medals
76 silver medals
53 bronze medals

Great quote From in his book « Think Again » It’s easy nowadays to mix popularity with competence! So much information travels around often explained by self proclaimed experts with minimal knowledge and/or research skills. Enjoy the process going from novice to amateur, stay humble, continue learning BUT also, don’t stop rethinking as everything evolves. Personally I like to study a lot, but I also like my weeks where I don’t read at all to let my mind wander. Remember you’re best ideas often come in the shower when you’re not thinking of anything else. 😜

Why I did the . Not because it’s very difficult or particularly hard, but just to have a target. All these small steps accumulate over time. It gives you a target to aim at. I always say that in training or diet, consistency’s the key! So small goals on the way help to focus, give the feeling of actually achieving something and not only focusing on the end results. I never asked when will the 10 000 push ups be done, but asked If I could do another round of 10-20 or 30 reps for that particular day. Divide your big goal in small steps and enjoy the process!

It’s hard to see the preparation behind a 3h lecture. Remember giving your 15-20 minutes high school presentations? Putting content is one thing, making sure it’s still up to date and accurate is another thing, but making it fun and enjoyable is also important for me! Content is done, tonight is the « creating the story part », where I put my slides and exemples in order so that it creates a story instead of just a series of bullet points. Keeping everyone interested for a 3h long Zoom webinar is a real challenge! This lecture is in 7 days (in French) for professionals only, organized by Fun time ahead! On se voit bientôt!

Working on my next webinar for DFH in March. More details soon. This one’s for practitioners only. Sometimes you need to put a lot of time just for a slide that you’ll show only few minutes. Making sure that the data is still accurate and up to date…but mostly making sure you can explain a very complex principle in layman’s terms. I clearly deserve a mental break, time to go for a walk. -21C will surely wake me up! …
