The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy (SPOT) GHRI engages students and faculty in education, research development and capacity building to strengthen the global health focus at SPOT. The School of Physical and Occupational Therapy Global Health Rehabilitation Initiative is a community of students, faculty and clinicians actively engaged in capacity building initiatives at the intersectio

n of global health, rehabilitation and disability. The SPOT Global Health Forum is a monthly event that brings together students, clinicians and researchers interested in topics related to global health and rehabilitation. Each session features an invited guest who discusses their experience of global health activities, initiatives and involvement. Open to students from all years, faculty and clinicians.

McGill Undergraduate students from all faculties can now apply for the Global Health Scholars - Undergraduate program! Gain hands-on experience through funded (between $3,000 and $6,000) participation in one of 23 global health projects under the supervision of a McGill professor. These projects range from surgery to psychiatry and Indigenous health, to name a few.

Since the start of Spring 2023, the McGill Global Health Programs office has offered travel awards on a rolling basis for students and residents in the McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences travelling for global health electives, fellowships, practicums, research projects, and other global health-related initiatives.

McGill Summer institute in Global health had organized a 3 days online course on “Global considerations of Disability for Rehabilitation providers” on 23, 24, 25th May 2023. 3 NGOs working with Disability presented each day and shared their experience in working with disability. Amar Seva Sangam ’s team presented their work on the second day – 24th May 2023 with the heading: Realizing Child Disability Rights.

S. Sankara Raman, Promotor, Co -chairman and Secretary of Amar Seva Sangam, presented “System Change: Practical Approaches to advocate for rights of children with disabilities.”

Navamani Venkatachalapathy, our Implementation Lead of Enabling Inclusion Program, presented “Need of CBR Program and Enabling Inclusion Program Model.”

Franzina Coutinho, Director or Research Centre of Excellence, presented “Research in Enabling Inclusion program.”

Marie Brien, Associate Director or Research and Capacity building of Centre of Excellence, presented “Provision of Paediatric Assistive Technology in the EI program.”

Vasanthi Aurumugasamy, Assistant Coordinator for Enabling Inclusion Program presented “Enabling Inclusion App.”

It was a 4-hour presentation starting from 8.00 am to 12.00 PM EDT. 19 participants from 7 countries participated in these 3 days online course. Amar Seva Sangam’s experience in disability rehabilitation and realizing childhood rights was well received by the participants.
