We invite you to participate in a study on the effects of cannabis use during pregnancy and breastfeeding on infant development. This research, conducted at CHU Sainte-Justine, CHUM, and CIUSSS, aims to better inform mothers and healthcare professionals. We are recruiting 160 mother-child pairs, some of whom have used cannabis and others who have not, to compare the effects on infants' brain development.
We are seeking women who use cannabis for the experimental group and women who do not for the control group.
Procedure:
- Questionnaires: Regarding your cannabis use, your health, and your child's health.
- Breast milk samples: If you have used cannabis, we will collect samples for analysis.
- Infant's samples: Blood and meconium (first stools) for babies born to mothers who have used cannabis.
- Infant brain MRI: To study brain development.
- Developmental assessment: At 18 months, to evaluate your child's cognitive and motor development.
Duration: Up to 21 months, with up to 4 visits.
Compensation: $100 for the MRI and $40 for the 18-month evaluation.
Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time. The information collected will remain confidential and will be used to better understand the impacts of cannabis on newborn development.
