I’ve been wanting to share this post for a few weeks now since it’s something that really hit me hard in this postpartum period and I’m sure that I’m not alone in it.
Soon after baby J was born I felt a strong shift in my stress and blood sugar levels. I knew it would happen and tried to be as prepared as possible but it can be challenging to prioritize yourself in the 4th trimester.
3 reasons why you’re craving stimulants like sweets and coffee after birth ⬇️
1️⃣Your stress hormones are higher
2️⃣You’re not getting good quality sleep
3️⃣You’re not eating regular or balanced meals (shoveling down cold leftovers is usually where it’s at for me most days🤦🏼‍♀️)

Some of the ways I’ve been managing stress & supporting healthy blood sugar levels is by incorporating movement that feels good (yoga, walks outside & short low impact workouts), trying to prioritize protein, fiber & healthy fats in all meals and snacks, evening baths with Epsom salts, candles and essential oils.

Did you know that eating dates can actually help your body prepare for labour & delivery when eaten in the third trimester of pregnancy?
The recommended amount is approximately 6 small deglet dates or 2-3 medjool dates.
My favourite ways to include more dates into my diet are my making some healthy sweet treats to have with my evening third trimester tea.

5 things I’m doing to help decrease my baby’s exposure to environmental chemicals ⬇️⬇️⬇️
Many of the chemicals approved for use cleaning and personal care products have never been tested for safety ❌
Exposure to environmental chemicals has been proven to increase baby’s risk of developing common childhood issues like allergies, asthma, eczema and even behavioural issues.
Although we can’t really do much about exposures we get outside of our home, there’s definitely a lot we can do to reduce the toxic load in the home and this actually makes a HUGE difference! 🙌🏻

We know that colourful plant foods are healthy for us but did you know that the antioxidants in these foods can actually be used to help support fertility in both men & women.
Antioxidants help our bodies deal with the many stressors our bodies are exposed to on a daily basis, all of which can have serious effects on egg and s***m health.
