Ho do we hear that too often! “It’s your adrenals, you have adrenal fatigue!” I once did a whole lecture on why I don’t like this terminology. For me, it’s like saying that you have a gas tank problem on your car because it’s always empty when you drive it pedal to the metal all the time, and put 2$ of gas a week in your tank!!
Is the problem the gas tank? Is it because you don’t put enough gas in it each time? Is it because you’re too agressive on the gas pedal? Is it because there’s an engine problem or is it because you are stressed and can’t control your actions while driving?
Somewhat, when it comes to physiology, the logical explanation doesn’t make sense...
“Adrenal fatigue” is not a condition, but a symptom. The adrenals are not to blame nor is the gas tank in my exemple.
Functional medicine is about finding the root of a problem, not “fixing” a symptom.
Then what may be the problem here? Lack of sleep, lack of deep sleep, overworking, overtraining, overeating, under-resting, nutrient deficiencies, malabsorption, gut issues, family problems, and the list continues!
If you think you have this symptom, find a good nd or good functional medicine dr that can help you find the real underlying issue and built the plan to address it.
Tell me you are tired, not that your adrenals are fatigued ;)
