Since then, we have distributed over 300 purses filled with self-care items and other supplies throughout Muskoka. The community has been the foundation of this movement, through the work of generosity. Muskoka Purseveres was initially launched during the beginning of the pandemic, the goal was to inspire hope in those who struggle with mental health and provide a sense of connection with the community during that difficult time. During that time, and to date, over 300 purses have been distributed around Muskoka. You might ask, βWhy a purse?β A purse (or bag) is a practical item for donation, making it easy for the community to contribute and create a meaningful impact. Additionally, Muskoka Purseveres is committed to being inclusive of all gender identities, ensuring that our care packages cater to the diverse needs and preferences of everyone in the community. Muskoka Purseveres was initially inspired by my own personal journey with mental health. My aim was to share the strategies and resources that helped me navigate challenging times, including self-care practices, and art. Muskoka Purseveres is a mental health initiative dedicated to the positive impact of self-care packages. We are committed to continuously evolving to better meet the needs and aspirations of our community. Although Muskoka Purseveres was launched during the pandemic, we continue to distribute purses. In 2022, we experienced a brief shutdown due to limited storage space for supplies. During this period, we were able to deliver 40 filled and an additional 40 unfilled bags, along with supplies, to the Ukraine distribution center in Toronto, thanks to one of our most dedicated supporters. This means that thanks to our community, Muskoka Purseveres has extended its reach beyond Muskoka! Thanks to The District of Muskoka and their Pay It Forward (PIF) Grant of $1,000, Muskoka Purseveres will continue to support mental health in the community through the distribution of care packages in 2024. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Sparkle T Mental Health Initiative, in conjunction with Shine, for their generous $1,000 donation in 2021, made in memory of their beloved family member, Sparkle T. As well as community supporters and volunteers who continue to make Muskoka Purseveres possible. But most importantly, deeply grateful to those who have reached out for a purse (or bag). You have persevered through so much. Your courage in asking for support is truly uplifting
