Don't focus on changing everything this month to meet some unrealistic goal, instead, rethink how you approach your overall health, with one of these questions:

As I age...
1) Would I prefer to get around using a walker or my own strong legs?

2) Would I rather be attached to an oxygen machine, or take deep breaths with my strong lungs?

3) Do I want to live in a house I love independently, or in assisted living?

4) Do I want to run after my grandchildren, or let someone else do it for me?

5) Do I want to live a full life, without limitations?

Then make decisions on a case-by-case, minute-by-minute, day-by-day basis with your end goal in mind. You know what to do, it's simple but not easy.

We live in a world where being healthy isn't the norm, it's the exception. It's up to you, to beat the status quo and make choices that will help shape how you will live into your senior years.

Time isn't something we ever get back. Make the best of it.
Don't wait until then, start now.

We all know what to do...so why don't we?

Don't bother looking for a diet, or a plan, shop the outside isles. If it's man-made, don't eat it, if it's made by mother nature then go right ahead.

Your body needs, water, sun, motion, and ingredients provided by good old mother earth. Give it time to heal itself, it will reward you in the end.

I talk about this to my clients all the time.
They are easy to incorporate but as flawed humans, we tend to do what’s comfortable, and that’s what we need to overcome.

However, even doing one or two of these poorly, rather than not at all, is a step forward to increasing your health span.

Here’s to living long and able bodied.

Advances in public health, surgery, and medicine are trying to extend our lifespan, but what about our health­span? Your lifespan is how long you live. Your healthspan is how many years you live a healthy, vibrant life. You want your healthspan to equal your lifespan.

The new science of longevity, based on the principles of functional medicine, is the science of health and restorative and regenerative medicine. It is not about just treating dis­ease but about building resilience and vitality long­term. If you believe your genes are stacked against you, this is even more reason to double down on the science of creating health.

These four behav­iors alone seemed to prevent 93 percent of diabetes cases, 81 percent of heart attacks, 50 percent of strokes, and 36 per­cent of all cancer cases. And the best part is these behaviors are fairly easy to incorporate into your lifestyle.

I had all intentions of coming out for an early morning coffee and just sitting here and reading this morning. But my kitties had other plans for me. They somehow broke their water fountain and that resulted in a pool of water on my hardwood floor. So after I cleaned up, I could sense I just didn’t have the relaxed vibe I had when I first woke up, so I worked out and came out to have my water and lemon on the deck. I had put my phone aside until now, and for the past 30 minutes, listened to the crickets, birds, cars, wind in the trees and my own breath.

I now feel a little tired, but not in a bad way, just relaxed. Sometimes you have to change your plans to make sure your day has the best start it can.

It's been a strange busy last few weeks. I've been struggling...at the end of the day, my mind wants nothing but to sit and watch TV. But I know that it's NOT what my body needs, and I've had to push myself to do my workout and put my health first.
