I wasn’t angry.
I was disappointed.

Anger just took over when disappointment had nowhere to go.

January can feel loud when you live with anxiety.

Everyone else is planning months ahead,
but anxiety lives in the what ifs, not the calendar.

So instead of excitement,
your body might feel tense, tired, or on edge
even when nothing is wrong.

Anxiety isn’t a mindset problem.
It’s a nervous system response to uncertainty.

You’re allowed to move through this slowly,
gently, without having it all figured out.

You want connection.
Until it feels real.

That’s usually when you pull away.
Not because you don’t care.
Because you care too much.

When closeness once meant pain, your body learned to leave first.

Nothing is wrong with you.

Holding it together.
Pushing through.
Trying not to snap.

When overwhelm has nowhere to go,
it comes out as anger.

January isn’t motivating for everyone.
For a lot of neurodivergent people, it’s overwhelming.

New goals.
New routines.
Pressure to reset everything at once.

That pressure can trigger executive function burnout, decision paralysis, and shame.

This isn’t laziness.
Your brain just works differently.

You don’t need a full reset.
You’re allowed to start small, move slowly, and build a year that actually works for you.

Trying so hard not to mess up.
Holding it in.
Staying calm.

And then it leaks out as anger.

This is what happens when anxiety stays high for too long.

ADHD isn’t a motivation problem.
It’s an executive functioning loop.

You want to start the task.
Your brain gets stuck on where to begin.
Overwhelm hits.
So you avoid it.

Avoidance turns into guilt.
Guilt turns into self-criticism.
Then your nervous system shuts down or panics.

Now the task feels even bigger.
And the loop starts again.

This isn’t laziness.
It’s overwhelm.

Saying no is not rude.
It is not selfish.
And it is not something you need to justify.

If this year you’re choosing yourself instead of guilt,
you’re not doing it wrong.
