Why do moms end up being the default planner in the family?

Alot of it has to do with cultural norms, but I can’t help but wonder if there is some biology involved as well 🤔

We do tend to be more nurturing and the “nesting” instinct while pregnant can be quite intense . Either way , being the household planner is not an easy task .

Things like :

📋Remembering birthday cards
📋Packing the diaper bag
📋Coordinating family plans
📋Planning outings
📋Organizing the house
📋Booking appointments

Are just a few examples of things often on a moms To Do List 📝

The tough part about this role , is that there is NEVER a break . The house needs to keep running 🏡

The planning element of motherhood is quite often on of the most draining. Finding systems to “plan” more efficiently can be a big game changer 💡💜

Check out my Etsy shop for printable planners geared towards lighting mom’s mental load 📋💜

The importance of proper nutrition postpartum 🫙🍵🍌🥒

I took this photo the day after Alora was born 🤍

There is no marathon quite like birth . It doesn’t end when the baby arrives . You then need to feed said baby and help your body heal simultaneously🤍

The fact that nutrition isn’t emphasized more during the postpartum period is mind boggling to me😳

My best advice to any mom about to give birth is to eat as cleanly as possible and stick to massive nutrient dense smoothies and salads after birth 🥗🫐🍌🥥🥬🍉🥭🥑

They are easy to digest , full of fibre and easy to make.

You have to fuel to heal🤍

It’s been said before , but I would like to say it again!

Grocery shopping without your kids isn’t a break ….it’s still an essential task !

I hate when people refer to a break as any time away from kids , even if you are still performing essential tasks . You wouldn’t take a lunch break at work, go clean the bathroom and call it a break ? So why do we feel like it’s a break for moms ?

A break is doing something for yourself that YOU WANT to do . Not something that HAS to be done .

Sisters🌸🎀

Things have been so incredibly busy since Alora was born, it hasn’t really sunk in that I have two girls🎀🤍

I am so excited to watch them grow up together and the bond they form.

I didn’t have any siblings so this is completely new territory for me .

August has adjusted pretty well so far . Most of the time she is too busy to really even notice “baby” lol 😂

The biggest thing I have learned, since transitioning to two girls, is to not have expectations . Things are just going to go the way they go 🤷🏼‍♀️

When you catch a picture perfect moment soak it in for all its worth🥰 Two minutes after this picture was take August was trying to pick Alora’s nose 🥴

It’s beach season 🩴☀️🌊🏝

If your a mom this means 50lbs of bags, snacks , water bottles, extra clothes and towels😬

I loved going to the beach before having kids and just laying in sun for a few hours , swimming and recharging my batteries 🔋

Now it is more work than a recharge😂 Packing all the things , being mindful of sun exposure, watching the toddler like a hawk in the water, and SAND ….all the sand EVERYWHERE⛱

Don’t get me wrong ….it’s still amazing ….just in different ways🤍

Watching the joy on my daughter’s face, as she splashes in the water is priceless.

All the extra work is worth it🤍

Cheers to all the moms packing all the things for the beach🏝 You are heroes!

Why swimsuit shopping almost made me cry👙🩴

All my swimsuit tops were too small to fit nursing b***s and the bottoms were worn out from the pool last summer.

I needed a new one for the next day, which meant having to drag everyone out for a shopping trip🛍

Planning any trip with a toddler, newborn and needy dog is a freaking ordeal . There is a brief window after naptime and lunchtime BUT before the witching hour starts, where you can pull off an outing without nuclear meltdowns🪟☢️ Those who get it ….get it .

We managed to get everyone to the mall and in the stroller🙌Perfect!

NOT😒 Toddler p*es and the window closes🪟

I just wanted to cry . It wasn’t the p*e …bodily fluids are part of my job description. It was the fact a simple task felt impossible to accomplish.

It’s hard to do anything for yourself as a mom . Even something as simple as buying a swimsuit.

Couple this with postpartum hormones and re learning what currently best fits my body ….I was almost the one having a meltdown☢️

Long story short, I found a swimsuit and nobody had a meltdown at the mall .

It seems insane to have a shopping trip almost bring you to tears, but that’s motherhood 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you find yourself upset over something that seems trivial….dig deeper and figure out what’s really bothering you.

For me , it wasn’t the toddler accident that made me want to cry , it was the inability to complete a simple task for myself . It was feeling like nothing was ever just “for me”.

Practicing a little self awareness to deconstruct situations can go a long way 🤍

And that’s how a swimsuit almost made me cry 🩴👙😭 Have you ever cried over something that seems trivial but is a bigger issue ?

Feeding babies in the first twelve months of life, is HARD WORK….regardless of how it’s done🤍🤱🏼👩🏻‍🍼🍼

Being available around the clock to provide nourishment for a baby is a a draining task🥱

Neither breastfeeding or bottle feeding are easier ….just different types of labour .

With breastfeeding you are needed 24/7 on demand by your baby. It’s very physically and mentally intense. You have to show up for every feed….if baby decides to feed every hour overnight ….you are awake too. Sleep deprivation aside, your b***s quite often feel significant discomfort. It is hard work .

With bottle feeding you have the sleep deprivation mixed, with the added labour of cleaning bottles . Also the mental load of remembering to buy formula before you run out . It is hard work

Pumping is an interesting combo of both …you have the bottles to worry about cleaning, but instead of being tied to the baby, you are glued to the pump. It is hard work.

Feeding a baby is HARD WORK🤍🍼👩🏻‍🍼🤱🏼 If you are currently in this stage of motherhood …..you deserve all the respect . It’s a marathon .

Throw back to my first few months as a mom with August 🤍

I was in 100% pure baby bliss until that bubble popped around 6 months . I think that’s when reality set in that life was never going to be the same😂

I have found things so different the second time around . With Alora, I already know how to care for a baby . What I am learning is how to care for a toddler and baby simultaneously . That is super challenging.

I find myself reflecting on the first few months with August and feel a bit sad I will never have the same experience again.

I was able to cuddle her as long as I wanted, without trying to entertain a toddler . I could nap when she did if I needed to . I took baths with her almost every night 😭

To put it in to perspective ….I have taken 3 baths with Alora since she was born . The second time around things are different . Not in a bad way just different .

My biggest advice to any moms pregnant with their second child close in age to their first …..don’t have any expectations for how the newborn stage will be 🤍

It will be so different from your first experience.

News flash it isn’t actually about the coffee ☕️🍵

It’s about having something that is just for you and you alone🤍

I never understood why I enjoyed having coffee so much. It wasn’t the caffeine ….occasionally I drink decaf and still enjoy it . I do love the taste, but what I really love is not having to share it 😏

As moms, we share: our bodies with babies , we share our food , our cups , our personal space , our time ….the list goes on📋

Having one thing in the day that doesn’t have to be shared feels amazing☕️🤍

It’s a very small and practical act of self care 🌸

Anyone else feel this way ? Are you a coffee or tea drinker ?

Summer days☀️🌊🌸

Some some honest postpartum body thoughts💭

I am shocked that this baby was still inside of me only a few months ago . That concept is mind blowing . I am so incredibly grateful for a healthy body that grows and births healthy babies🤍

It’s still such a weird transition from pregnancy to postpartum. My body didn’t change much during pregnancy BUT it still feels different . My stomach a bit softer , my chest larger and my pelvis a bit out of place still .

It’s such a humbling experience to host another life for nine months . It’s incredibly empowering to know what my body is capable of.

My priority this postpartum phase has been to nourish, move and rest . I feel good being in that mindset🤍

However there are times I feel like a stranger in my own body .

Trying on swim suites and realizing hipster bottoms aren’t currently the most flattering choice for my body, was a learning curve😅🤍

I wanted to share because I am sure this is relatable for almost every mom out there🤍
