What if we don't ignore our pain, but instead take care of it with love and compassion? If you can, sit quietly and feel the pain, put your hand on your heart and let yourself feel it, even for short moments of time, if you can. Let yourself feel all the emotions that are there. Breathe deeply, be present with it. Then, when you're ready, take out a journal and write or draw, talk to a friend, or reach out for counselling. And give yourself lots of love. Dealing with hard feelings is hard work.
