A common conversation topic in my Mindfulness classes is often that my patients are getting frustrated with themselves or their experience:

"I should feel more relaxed!" ‼️

"What's wrong with me? My attention keeps wandering during the practice!"⁉️

Does this sound familiar?

What I remind them is this:

✨ Although relaxation is a welcome side effect of mindfulness, it's normal for a practice to feel like work. Mindfulness practice is more of a trip to the gym than a visit to the spa.

✨It's impossible to do mindfulness wrong! Whenever you notice your attention has been pulled from the practice it's an opportunity to be kind to yourself and gently redirect your attention, back to the practice. This is a beautiful aspect of the practice of mindfulness.

So the next time your mind judges you or your experience, see if it's available to you to experiment with being curious and compassionate. You are doing the best you can, and that's good enough! 💖

📢There's still time to join my in person MBSR at GoYoga in Orangeville. I can't wait to hear from you!

Medication can be a great tool for many people with anxiety and depression.

But for many it's not something they want OR it doesn't help enough to improve quality of life.

Check out this new study showing that MBSR is "non inferior" to a medication called Escitalopram for the treatment of anxiety.

❓What does it mean to be "non inferior"❓

A non inferiority trial is often done to test whether a new treatment is not worse than an active treatment it is being compared to. It's not trying to see if it's better, just to see if it is worse.

If you are interested in MBSR to support your mental wellbeing, email me at mbsrorangeville@gmail.com!

We get started April 27!!

👋I thought it was about time I introduced myself again here! 👋

Hi! I'm Jill Bailey, a family physician with a practice focused on mental health and addictions. After 14 years of general family practice in Orangeville, I now split my time between the inpatient addiction medicine program at Homewood Health Centre, and providing CBT focused psychotherapy both in the Dufferin area, and virtually for all Ontario residents with www.teleCBT.ca. I have a special interest in health care provider wellbeing and supporting people coping with life-altering medical issues.

I am a trained MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) and MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy) facilitator through the Toronto Centre for Mindfulness Studies. I also created my own group program for people with cancer and their loved ones called "Ray of Hope", in honour of my father in law Ray who passed away from cancer in 2020.

As a part of the mindfulness facilitator training, the first step was to take the course myself. It was absolutely life-changing to discover how stepping back, and noticing my experience without judgement impacted my life in small and profound ways.

Facilitating mindfulness groups is now the highlight of my week! The group experience always deepens my own mindfulness practice, and I am continuously inspired by each participant, learning right along with you.

When I'm not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 4 boys, walking our dog in nature with a podcast in my ear or chatting with a friend.

I'm glad you're here!

📢I’m excited to announce my first ever in person Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction group! Available to all adults in the area & funded by OHIP. 📢

I’m especially excited to annouce that I have partnered with the beautiful where we will be holding the sessions. It’s such a warm, inviting and soothing space! 💜

❓So, what is mindfulness❓

I used to think to be mindful I needed to achieve a state of blissful relaxation, or clear my mind entirely and have some life altering experience in every meditation.

🚫Well since that's impossible (!) I quickly wrote off mindfulness as being not at all relevant to my real life or useful for my patients.

✨Now I have come to learn that mindfulness is a beautiful skill that can be developed.

✨It's an intention to notice the present moment without judgment.

✨To hold space for myself, my inner critic, my negative thoughts and pain with kindness and curiosity.

✨To notice my reactivity and choose a conscious response.

If you are struggling with:

✅ stress
✅ burnout
✅ overwhelming life changes
✅ chronic pain or illness
✅ relationship difficulties
..reach out for more information or to register by emailing mbsrorangeville@gmail.com.

✨You are not alone and there is always hope, no matter what you are facing.✨

I can't wait to get started!
