Our Story
Founded in 1998, the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) began as a modest 20-responder first aid operation, providing coverage at Carleton events. Over the years, CUSERT began to grow and develop, commencing 24/7 on call service in 2005. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the team became a part of the Department of University Safety. Today, CUSERT is Carleton’s emergency medical response service, providing 24/7 on-call medical first response on the Carleton University campus.
CUSERT is made up of approximately 40-50 dedicated volunteer student responders, coming from a wide range of personal and academic backgrounds. They are trained at the Canadian Red Cross level of First Responder (or higher) and have Mental Health First Aid certifications provided by the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
In additional to its on-call services, CUSERT can provide free medical first response coverage at Carleton-based events. CUSERT is also a Canadian Red Cross Training Partner and can provide widely-recognized first aid courses to the Carleton community.
