Robertson Therapy & Counselling Offering psychotherapy services to the Ottawa and surrounding area. Virtual and in-person appointments available. Book online today

Our therapists are Mandie Robertson and Kyli Robertson. We focus on treating a number of mental health concerns including, but not limited to, trauma, depression, stress, anxiety, career issues, self-esteem, grief, couples and relationship struggles, parenting, and perinatal issues. We also offer services tailored to meet the needs of new parents. We hope to allow individuals experiencing difficul

ties in the pre/post natal stages (i.e. anxiety about pregnancy/parenthood, postpartum depression, relationship difficulties) to access support. Through a client-centred approach, we support our clients in identifying and working through their challenges. Our office is conveniently located at the south end of Merivale Road. Fully accessible with ample free parking available on site. We understand that making the choice to engage in counselling can be intimidating. We welcome any questions you may have regarding our services and the counselling process.

Therapy is about understanding yourself on a deeper level—your patterns, triggers, emotions, and the way you navigate the world. It’s a space to grow, not just to heal.

It can support you through:
• Anxiety & stress
• Emotional overwhelm
• Relationship challenges
• Life transitions
• Burnout
• Personal growth

At its core, therapy offers something many people don’t get enough of—a safe, supportive space to be heard while learning real tools to cope, communicate, and build resilience.

Anxiety isn’t the enemy — the truth? Anxiety is our nervous system at work and it can actually be helpful in keeping us alert, focused, and motivated. The challenge begins when it shows up without a real threat and becomes chronic.

The goal isn’t to eliminate anxiety but rather to regulate it.
Simple tools that can help:
😮‍💨 Slow, deep breathing
⚡️ Stimulating the vagus nerve (cold water, humming, gentle yoga)
🧘🏻‍♀️ Mindfulness and grounding
💭 CBT techniques to reframe anxious thoughts
💪🏻 Regular movement

Read the full blog at robertsontherapy.ca where we explore the physiology of anxiety, why we need it, and practical ways to regulate it.

“Do I need a clear goal to start therapy?”
The short answer? No.

Some people begin therapy with something specific in mind — reducing anxiety, navigating a life change, improving communication, or working through burnout.

Others start with something less defined:
“I don’t feel like myself.”
“I’m overwhelmed.”
“Something just feels off.”

If you’re unsure where to start, try asking yourself:
• What feels hardest right now?
• What would I like to feel differently about?
• What do I want more (or less) of?

Therapy can help you uncover what your goals are along the way. You don’t need all the answers — just the courage to take the first step.

Read the full blog to explore both sides and decide what feels right for you. ✨

New year, fresh goals but why do so many of us give up shortly after setting them?

Making real change comes by creating goals that are:

✨ Identity-based (instead of “I want to lose weight”, try “ I am someone that values exercise”

✨Smaller than necessary (instead of “I’m going to drink 2L of water” start with one glass and increase as you go)

✨Habit stacked with existing routines (after brushing your teeth➡️read one page of a book)

✨Focused on the system and not the outcome (goals give direction but systems create results!)

Focus on who you’re becoming, start small, and build consistent habits into ✨your✨ life (not the other way around).

The winter season can quietly push us to keep hustling, even when our bodies are asking for rest.

This is your reminder to slow down.
Pause when you can.
Get some fresh air.
And rest without guilt.

Rest is not a reward.
It’s a need.

Grief changes us and there is no timeline or “right way” to adjust to it. Learning to live after loss (of a loved one, a relationship, a job, a dream, etc.) takes time and the right support.

Read more about coping and healing after loss in our recent blog (link in bio).

If you’re navigating life after loss and need support, we are here to help 🤍

For some, the holidays are twinkling lights and excitement. For others, it brings stress, overwhelm, loneliness, and a heavy sadness that’s hard to explain.

If you’re feeling the pressure to be cheerful and present or to pretend everything is fine—you’re not alone.

So here’s your gentle reminder:
💛 You’re allowed to have boundaries.
💛 You’re allowed to slow down.
💛 Your emotions (all of them) are valid.
💛 You’re allowed to say no.
💛 You’re allowed to take care of your first.

If this season feels heavy, please remember that reaching out for support—whether from a friend, partner, community space, or therapist—is not weakness. It’s self care.

We are accepting new clients, reach out to us to book with one of our experienced therapists.
