🌪️ Why Is Emotional Regulation So Hard for Teens?
And how can we actually help?

Our latest blog post by Registered Psychotherapist Vanessa Cardinal dives into the emotional world of adolescence—from the brain development behind those big feelings to the skills that can truly support teens in managing them.

💬 Teens aren’t just being “moody”—they’re navigating a developmental stage where emotions can feel overwhelming and hard to control. Understanding this can shift how we support them.

📘 In this post, we explore how Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) offers real, effective tools to help teens build emotional resilience, improve relationships, and feel more in control of their inner world.

Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or teen yourself, this one’s worth the read. 💛

🌱 New on the Blog: Rediscovering Yourself After Parenthood

By Leily Shafaee Millward

Becoming a parent can be one of life’s most beautiful experiences—but it can also quietly shift how we see ourselves. Many parents, especially mothers, find themselves wondering: Who was I before this? And where did that version of me go?

In our latest blog post, Leily explores the often unspoken experience of identity loss in parenthood—the invisible shift from “me” to “mom” or “dad”—and offers gentle, validating reflections on how to begin reconnecting with yourself.

If you’ve ever felt disconnected from who you once were, or like you’re trying to find yourself again in the midst of it all, this one’s for you. 💛

💙 New Blog: The Emotional Element of Pregnancy Loss 💙

Pregnancy loss—whether through miscarriage or stillbirth—is an experience that carries profound emotional weight. The grief that follows is often complex, deeply personal, and unpredictable. For many, it’s not just the loss of a pregnancy, but the loss of dreams, hopes, and an envisioned future.

In our latest blog, we explore the emotional impact of pregnancy loss, the unpredictable waves of grief, and the journey toward healing. We also share ways to honour the loss, navigate triggers, and find support in a world that doesn’t always know how to talk about this kind of pain.

If you or someone you love has experienced pregnancy loss, you are not alone. 💙 Healing is not about “moving on” but about learning how to carry grief with love and self-compassion.

🧠 How Early Relationships Shape Self-Esteem 💙

The way we see ourselves isn’t something we’re born with—it’s shaped by our earliest experiences. From the validation (or criticism) we received as kids to the friendships and societal messages we absorbed, these influences help form our self-esteem—sometimes in ways we don’t even realize.

In our latest blog, Vanessa Cardinal, a psychotherapist at our practice, explores how childhood experiences can impact self-worth well into adulthood—and how therapy can help rewrite these narratives.

🔹 Why early relationships matter
🔹 How past experiences shape self-esteem
🔹 Practical strategies for rebuilding confidence

If you’ve ever struggled with self-doubt or feelings of “not being enough,” this one’s for you. Read the full blog here: www.matthewrippeyoung.com/blog

✅ How therapists can build rapport—especially with teens who may be hesitant to open up

✨ New Blog Post: Is Everyone a Narcissist? Let’s Set the Record Straight

It’s amazing to see mental health conversations happening more and more—whether on social media, in schools, or in workplaces. But with that growing awareness, some terms (like narcissism) are getting thrown around way too loosely.

As a psychologist, I wanted to set the record straight. Despite what you might hear online, Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) affects about 1% of the population—not everyone who sets a boundary or takes a selfie.

In this blog post, we break down:
✅ What narcissism actually is (and isn’t)
✅ Why overusing this term can cause harm
✅ How to better understand people’s behaviours without mislabeling them

If you’re curious to learn more, check out the full blog post here 👉 www.matthewrippeyoung.com/blog

Let’s keep talking about mental health—with compassion and accuracy. 💬💛
