I LOVE TO BREATH!!
(Read to the bottom for a *gift* ;)
Here are a few reasons why I enjoy practicing and teaching pranayam so much (prana=vital life energy, yam= practice, discipline).
Being human, as with all other life on Earth, we constantly breath air to stay alive. It's the fastest moving element that we interact with on a regular basis. It is so integral to our current energetic state. Because of all this, it is the quickest, simplest, and most effective path to moderating how we feel RIGHT NOW.
Feeling tired or sluggish? Activate more energy with the strong Bhastrika, bellows breath, or the stimulating kapal bhati, shining skull breath.
Feeling anxious and overwhelmed? Relax immediately with a soothing Ujjayi, victory breath, emphasizing a long, slow, quiet exhale.
Breathing is the absolute most accessible thing anyone can do. We're all alive, we are all breathing. Even if you have no arms or legs, most of your body can be gone, injured ribs or a punctured lung, you're still breathing.
There's a myriad of variations to the plethora of techniques, literally hundreds of distinct different ways we might breath in a moment, and infinite subtle differences in how it affects our energy, nervous system, and state of consciousness.
Finally, the breath is a great object to focus the mind on. The breath is an emulsifier deeply connecting the mind with the body. We may choose to be subjective while breathing, not focusing on any object at all, or focus on an object- like a thought, feeling, idea, or the breath. Breath is a very grounding and real thing that is happening each moment, the movement, the energy, the relaxation and concentration. It's a fantastic object for the mind to indulge in.
I study, practice, and teach many different styles of yoga, bringing many influences into a class that may be for general maintenance or have a direct focus. Breathing, and meditating on it, is always a significant factor in the effects we receive and create in a session.
Thanks for reading! Here's my gift; contact me about a FREE, PRIVATE, 30 minute introduction to this practice, or for anything yoga related! (Up to 4 people in a single group). Learn how you can implement conscious breathing into your life!
