⚡️MASTITIS ⚡️
if you've suffered, you know.
inflammation of the breast, caused by an infection in a blocked milk duct. swelling, tenderness, heat, engorged breasts, (and in serious infections - fever, redness or rash, body aches) 🤒
so how can you care for it?
〰️ first, KEEP FEEDING! it will suck, but you have to clear the ducts. push through.
〰️ feeding in a position that allows for baby's chin to put pressure on the clogged duct can help (like the mom pictured)
〰️ rest, rest, rest.
〰️ gently massage prior to and during feedings.
〰️ apply heat (a warm shower while massaging is often helpful)
〰️ ensure the breast is being drained to the point they feel soft and comfortable every time you feed.
〰️ and a classic treatment - cabbage leaves on the breast. yes, really!
(and your normal "Sydney is not a doctor" disclaimer: a blocked duct is NOT always mastitis - mastitis is the infection. of course, you should see your doctor to diagnose. you may need to be prescribed antibiotics or anti inflammatories, etc.🙏🏻)
