Cold weather & shorter days can make it harder to stay active, but winter doesn’t have to mean putting movement on pause ❄️

Here are a few simple ways to stay active and protect your body this winter:

1. Warm up properly
Cold muscles are stiffer and more prone to injury. Taking 5–10 minutes to gently warm up helps prepare your body for safe movement.

2. Keep movement simple
Staying active doesn’t have to mean intense workouts. Short walks, light strength exercises, or stretching sessions all count. Consistency matters more than intensity.

3. Stay active indoors
When outdoor movement feels less appealing, indoor exercise is a great option. Home workouts, yoga, Pilates, balance, and mobility exercises can help maintain strength and flexibility all season long.

4. Listen to your body
Winter often brings increased stiffness, tight muscles, and flare-ups of old injuries. Pain is not something to push through, it’s a signal that your body may need support.

5. Consider physiotherapy for guidance and prevention
Physiotherapy isn’t just for injuries. It can help prevent setbacks, improve mobility and strength, and manage pain and stiffness.

If aches, stiffness, or discomfort are holding you back, our physiotherapists are here to help you move with confidence.

Service Spotlight: Kinesiology

Kinesiology is movement-based rehabilitation and exercise prescription from registered kinesiologists.

Our registered kinesiologists work with you one-on-one to create personalized exercise programs based on your body, your goals, and your lifestyle. Whether you’re recovering from an injury, managing a chronic condition, or simply seeking to enhance your overall strength and mobility, kinesiology provides a safe, effective, and evidence-based approach to movement.

Kinesiology can help with:
✔ Injury prevention and recovery
✔ Chronic condition management (arthritis, diabetes, heart health, and more)
✔ Improving strength, mobility, and flexibility
✔ Supporting post-rehabilitation care
✔ Enhancing athletic performance
✔ Building confidence in everyday movement

What to expect in a kinesiology session:
• A detailed movement and functional assessment
• A customized exercise program designed for your needs
• Ongoing guidance, progression, and support

If your goal is to move with less pain, improve function, and stay active, kinesiology can help you get there!

Dealing with an injury can be frustrating, and many people unknowingly slow down their recovery by making these common mistakes:

1. Ignoring the pain
Pain isn’t something to “push through.” It’s your body telling you something isn’t right.

2. Waiting too long to seek help
The longer an injury goes untreated, the more complicated recovery can become.

3. Only resting and avoiding movement
While rest is important, too much of it can lead to stiffness, weakness, and delayed healing.

4. Doing random exercises found online
Every injury is different. What works for one person may not be safe or effective for another.

5. Treating the symptom instead of the root cause
Pain often comes from underlying movement issues, muscle imbalances, or poor mechanics.

Physiotherapy helps by:
✔️ Identifying the cause of your injury
✔️ Creating a personalized treatment plan
✔️ Guiding safe movement and strengthening
✔️ Supporting long-term recovery and injury prevention
