You'll probably see me share a lot of Jen Hamilton videos and posts on this page. Jen is the type of nurse that every laboring person deserves.

Unfortunately, we don't all get a Jen.
Having a doula by your side during your labour and birth can help bridge the gap in communication between you and medical staff.

You always have the right to ask for more information and deny/delay any procedure until you feel comfortable with the information you're receiving.

"Positive birth experience"

What do I mean by that? Does it mean that everything went exactly the way that you planned it? Does it mean that you had a perfectly "textbook" birth with zero complications and no interventions? Does it mean that you had a completely unmedicated labour and sneezed your baby out like that one lady in that episode of Friends?

If you chose 'none of the above', you're correct.

A positive birth experience can look a lot of different ways, and will absolutely look different for each individual birthing person.

And for most people, no matter how the actual birth went, what they remember most is how they were supported.

Wrong.

Listen, I can't speak for every doula.

But personally, I'm down for whatever you feel is right for you!

And listen, at the end of the day, one of the most important things it that you feel supported throughout your pregnancy, labour, birth and postpartum experience.

⚠Trigger Warning: Mention of Infant and Pregnancy Loss


Let's talk about doula support for families experiencing a loss. Do birth doulas support families through stillbirth? Absolutely. Your birth doula will still support you through your labour and birth, no matter the outcome.

Can you still hire a postpartum doula if there is no baby at home to care for? Absolutely. You still deserve support during your postpartum period, no matter what that looks like. A postpartum doula can offer emotional support, resources, and assist with completing daily tasks around the home. Maybe there are older children at home, and having an extra pair of hands during this difficult time would be helpful.

Doula support looks different for each client and I am ready to support you in whatever way you need.
