Triathlon 2025! (post 2 of 2)
How did it go? What did I learn?
🥳My goal was to finish the race.
My first tri (2022) I raced on the same mountain bike I used this time. It is literally 30.8lbs. So heavy🤦🏼♀️In 2022 I timed at 1h38m. This time I was expecting to finish in the 2hr zone.
This tri had many less participants than my first.
🐬The water portion is usually quite strong for me. But my goggles unfortunately kept leaking, so I was totally blind in the left eye. I also forgot how fresh water is less buoyant, so maybe next year I'll wear a baggy t-shirt when I train in salt water. Finally, I love to dolphin dive, so next time I'll be more strategic. Nonetheless, I was the 5th woman out of the water.
🚴♀️As expected, I was passed extensively on the bike. I was determined not to be last though, and in my two weeks of prep for this year's tri I trained with intention. So the bike leg was much better than 2022 overall.
🏃🏼♀️The running leg tends to be my strongest event. But because I was still crawling back into shape, I found it hard to lift my legs. I did excellently, though, and passed others in this portion of the race.
Overall, I finished the race only 5 minutes slower than my first triathlon, with 1:43:07 as my time. I also finished 2nd in my age category. When I learned how well I did, I cried. I didn't imagine being able to compete this year at all, let alone finish in under 2hrs. Praise God!
After receiving the race results, I learned I actually had a faster swim and run time than both the woman who finished 1st and 3d in my age group. My 30lb mountain bike is crushing me, lol.
Overall, the event went shockingly well. I am impressed by how TLV Full Body Workouts knit my skeletal muscle back together, and so quickly gave me the physical foundation I needed to get back to the things I love. Hallelujah!
There's 2 weeks left in the season for TLV! Jump on board for this Saturday if you're interested! But remember to register by emailing me by 9pm the night before 😉
