Have you heard: October is AAC Awareness Month! We believe that everyone as the right to communicate, and it doesn't matter if that's with spoken language, signed language, or an alternative and augmentative communication system.

Social groups are coming to Port Alberni!

Calling all individuals who are interested in participating in social groups! We are looking to start groups for: preschoolers, kindergarteners, elementary-school aged children, tweens, and an adult aphasia group.

Groups can vary from a semi-structured play date, to a gaming group, to being out in the community for a coffee. We strive to target common goals within the group and allow participants to support each other in their development, all while building meaningful connections. Each group consists of 2-5 kiddos, with possibility for a larger adult group depending on demand.

If you are interested in enrolling yourself or your child in a group, send us a message to find out more!

Process:
- Schedule a time to meet with Ina to identify appropriate goals and identify a good fit to place you/your child into (e.g., considering goals, personalities, interests etc.)
- Attend a group!

Cost: $80 per 1 hour session

Introducing Ina Lin, our new local SLP to Port Alberni!

Ina (“ee-na”) obtained her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the University of British Columbia. She works with both paediatric and adult clients in-person and via teletherapy. Ina enjoys working with a diversity of clients, targeting areas of intervention including speech sound disorders, early language development, voice therapy, and the use of alternative and augmentative communication (AAC) systems for complex communicators. Ina has worked extensively with individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder and is RASP certified with additional training in TalkTools.

Ina is an advocate for evidence-based practices and prioritizes goals that are functional and generalizable. She takes a play-based approach with the little ones and works closely with families and their teams. For her, this means identifying strategies that can be incorporated by the clients' team (and family) and providing education/coaching for the family.
