Welcome Dr Courtney, chiropractor 💕

This one is a different kind of introduction and one that feels so special. Dr Courtney has been on the HealthSpace team since the fall of 2020 as a student. She has done so much work for us behind the scenes and helped us stay on track at the front desk.

She officially joined our team as a chiropractor in September and we are so excited to see her continue to grow with us.

She is currently taking new patients and covering ‘s mat leave.

If a food is labelled as organic in Canada, it means that the food is grown without the use of toxic fertilizers and pesticides and is free from genetic engineering of the seed, feed and ingredients.

There have been many studies on the effects of pesticides on human hormone health. They have found that the chemicals in pesticides can have a negative impact on both reproductive hormones and thyroid hormones. For this reason, pesticides are considered to be "endocrine disruptors", for they disrupt the signalling and function of many hormones in the endocrine system.

But in this day and age, we understand that it likely isn't feasible to consume a completely organic diet. This is where guides like the "dirty dozen" and "clean fifteen" become helpful. The dirty dozen is a list of produce that tend to have a very high pesticide exposure, and would be most beneficial to buy organic. On the other hand, the clean fifteen list tends to have a lower pesticide exposure and is more ideal to buy non-organic.

Drop an emoji or tell us your favourite item on the clean fifteen!

On average, the research shows that it takes 66 days to turn a new "thing" into an automatic habit.

Sustainable change takes time, but isn't the goal of sustainable change to continue it for the long term? We know it can be intimidating to take the leap, but the only way to see results is to get started.

When it comes to managing stress and stabilizing cortisol levels, it is important that the changes you make be consistent and impactful. It may seen straight-forward, but consistency can be TOUGH.

Looking for information, guidance and support through making a long-anticipated change to your health? We have a multi-disciplinary team that can support you physically, mentally and emotionally while you turn that new "thing" into a new norm.

Give us a call, we would love to hear from you ✨

Nothing beats the feeling of walking out of your massage or chiropractic appointment.
For many, this is the best that they feel all week.

But did you ever think that you may actually be reversing the benefit when you get back to your home or office? Many of the habits we engage in on a daily basis impact our posture, muscle tension and pain level.

A few small changes can make a huge difference in maintaining the benefits of your appointment. Adjusting your workspace is a significant one because computer users often spend a huge part of their day at the desk.

Take 10 minutes and look at your office set up to see if you can optimize your ergonomics.
Your back will thank you, and so will your practitioner!

The only thing we love more than seeing you at the clinic, is seeing you feel better long term! ✅

When big things happen in life, you may find you are sitting with strong feelings. These can include feelings of frustration, anxiety, worry or sadness, but can also include positive feelings such as excitement, joy or healthy stress.

Whether you are experiencing a positive or negative feeling, it is important to be aware of it. Taking the time to notice, name, feel, reflect upon and learn from your own feelings can help you to be more aware and in control of your emotional triggers.

Although this post may outline 5 seemingly simple steps, actually putting them into action may not be so easy. That's where a therapist can step in to help. Whether you are looking for someone to listen, someone to guide you or someone to challenge you, a therapist can be a wonderful resource to help you be more comfortable and in control of big feelings.

TMJ syndrome is a broad term that refers to any dysfunction of the temporomandibular (TMJ) joint.

The temporomandibular joint is located on either side of the head, just in front of the ear. It is the joint that connects the jaw (aka the mandible) to the skull (specifically, the temporal bone). It allows you to open your mouth, talk and chew, which is why this syndrome can have such a huge impact on someone's day to day living.

There are many components that contribute to the TMJ including ligaments, nerves, blood vessels and muscles. Irritation of any of these structures can result in pain (of the jaw, ear, face, etc.), dysfunction, clicking and/or headaches. In some cases, the symptoms are so intense the individual struggles to open their mouth, eat or sleep.

It's important to also take a holistic approach to managing TMJ syndrome. Factors such as stress, dental health, posture and workspace ergonomics are just a few of the possible causes of TMJ syndrome.

A chiropractor is well equipped to treat TMJ syndrome, and they can work with you to not only manage your symptoms, but prevent repeated occurrences. Managing symptoms can include neck adjustments, muscle release, manual therapy and/or acupuncture. To prevent relapses, at-home stretches and techniques may be provided as well. If needed, they can also guide you in the right direction to access additional resources to help you address the root cause.
