Update – Burton “Cody” Campbell is now in custody after turning himself in to Winnipeg Police.

Portage la Prairie RCMP searching for male wanted for assaulting female

On September 3, 2025, at approximately 3:45 am, Portage la Prairie RCMP received a dispatch for an assault that had taken place on 11th Street NW.

Officers responded and were met at the door by an injured adult female.

The victim advised officers that a male known to her had broken into the residence, assaulted her, and fled the scene. There were also children in the residence at the time of the assault.

EMS transported the victim to hospital for further treatment.

RCMP have issued a warrant of arrest for 39-year-old Burton “Cody” Campbell from Ebb and Flow First Nation.

Campbell is facing the following charges:

• Breaking and entering with intent
• Assault while choking, suffocating or strangling
• Fail to comply with release order condition x4

Police are continuing their search for Campbell and if anyone has any information they are asked to call 911, or the Portage la Prairie RCMP detachment at 204-857-4445, , Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477, or secure tip online at www.manitobacrimestoppers.com.

The investigation continues.

Hey Patrollers - 2 things to talk about. First, in view of weather, we will not patrol tomorrow ( May 16). Second, we have been offered the July 1st hot dog sales at the City/ Stride celebrations. It would run from 11-2. We would have hot dogs, drinks, and maybe a freezie or cookie. How many of you would be willing to work at this event, or help set up, etc.?? I would like to let the City know as soon as I can, so please let me know if you're in.

United Way is Collecting locally for the Coats for Kids & Seniors on the locations below throughout Portage la Prairie. Thank you to Simplot for the generosity in supporting the Coats for kids & Seniors in the local Portage la Prairie area, their sponsorship will ensure that all our coats are collected, sorted and brought to the Brandon Cleaners for washing, so they are ready for the Fall distribution days November 13,14, 15 at Youth For Christ building.
