So powerful. So beautiful.

Birthing images have long been censored on social media—until a group of activists decided that women should be able to actually see a baby emerging from its mother's va**na.

A standout amongst the most wonderful minutes in life is the point at which you respect your tyke into the world. A surge an of feelings hit - depletion from the birthing procedure, energy about having somewhat one to look after and freeze with regards to being accountable for another life for whate

AQUADURAL (2018)
Waterbirth has primitive history as early as 2700BC when women of ancient Crete, Japan, South America and New Zealand were known to birth in shallow ocean and rivers. For this chapter of my series I wanted to construct a waterbirth image representative of ancient past: a woman birthing beneath the surface of the ocean.
Siberian philosopher Igor Tjarkovsky, who delivered thousands of babies in water and believes we originate from the sea 3 billion years ago, claims that waterbirth optimises the newborn brain on a sacred level. From the baby’s point of view, the continuity of environment going from one fluid to another, is said to pace the traumatic onslaught of all the new sensations, putting the monumental first breath last, contributing to a calmer transition that will indelibly affect our lifelong “limbic imprint”.

And they called it Puppy Love..

"He would give her reassuring kisses to let her know she could do this. It was a beautiful thing to watch - the bond between mom and baby, and man's best friend."

See that tiny pink bead on the lanyard? That is the size of a newborn's tiny tummy. When baby is born, the birthing parent produces colostrum which is the perfect for baby. Colostrum is concentrated and contains just the amount of food baby needs! It passes antibodies designed to protect baby from illness while preparing his/her tummy for the milk to come in. It's !

In this photo, I have a standard 2 ounce bottle of formula that is given to new babies. So, if baby's belly is only the size of a marble, what happens when baby is fed 2 ounces? Well, baby will usually spit up all the extra, which then can be spinned into baby having reflux. When really, baby is just being over fed. This leads to interventions like formula changes, antacid medications, etc.

It's important that we give all the available information so parents can make the best decisions for their families.

This image is such a powerful visual for new moms to help them see why their baby is nursing so much! It's not because you don't make enough milk or your baby isn't satisfied. It's because her tummy is this small and she needs frequent feeds of that amazing newborn colostrum!

Edited to add: I support my client's choices, always. I encourage my clients to be informed before making these choices. But what they decide is what I support. This photo is merely to showcase the size of a baby's tummy and encourage breastfeeding parents that their babies are getting enough and that frequency of feeds alone is not an indication of poor supply (it is much harder to be confident when you can't see the volume being fed to your sweet little baby). The reason the formula is shown here is simply to note for those who choose formula (or feel like they NEED supplementation), that two ounces of anything is far too much for a new baby in his or her first few days of life. No shame. No ugly formula talk. Just encouraging everyone to make the best, most INFORMED choices and use healthy methods of feeding whatever milk you choose for your baby 💖

Some women just wear pregnancy really well... like, really really well....

Annie is that woman.

That woman who is glowing; who's hair is like a shampoo commercial and who could easily sell skin care cream.

She makes it look so pretty.

She's ready.

There is an ease and grace about Annie.

This is her second, she's coming at it with a sweet surrender.

Little man, I do believe your Mama is waiting for you.

Here’s to making some great memories this summer! 📷😍

🙌🏽

My husband said to me this morning as he got the kids ready for a day out "They'll never remember. All this stuff we do with them, the places we take them...they won't remember much of it".

He is right. They wont. Not much of it anyway. But still it matters. Because he and I will remember.

Someday in the future,

As the door opens and our son introduces his first girlfriend or boyfriend, we will remember a time when all that mattered in his world was his mum and dad. And that how we treated him painted the canvass of how he sees this first relationship.

As our teenage daughter runs up the stairs claiming we dont understand her, we will remember that all it took when she was 5-years-old was a kiss, a cuddle and soothing words and that although she has no memory of it, she returns for those words aged 15.

We will remember as we choose the paint that will redecorate the hall, that we dont have to worry about the expensive paint that you can rub handprints from anymore. And I will yearn, I will ache, for a tiny handprint on my wall.

And as I watch my children with their children, I will remember that every trip to the park, every day we bombed them with love, every time we played hide and seek, shaped the map that they walked upon, in their quest to be a good parent themselves.

And as I walk along the beach someday in years to come, my face lined with the creases of my thoughts, my moments of panic, my moments of joy, I will feel the hot sand on the soles of my feet and remember my child walking to the sea with his dad on a day that I thought would last forever, but has now long gone.

I'll remember.

And my darling child, I will tell you what you dont remember...

Holding your 8lb body against my skin in a feeling that would defy what I ever thought possible.

Holding your hand as you took your first steps. Away from me. Towards the world.

Holding your waist as you navigated a pathway that had imaginary crocodiles trying to snap your ankles.

Holding it together when your daddy threw you up into the air, you squealing with delight, me squirming with anticipation.

Holding a book, a breast pump, a baby and a hand whilst I read you a story.

Holding back the tears when you had me filled with pride at your school play.

And you may say "I dont remember any of that".

No.

But I will.

And I watch you transition from child to teenager to adult to parent to home owner, I will know that what I remember, keeps you close to me.

And what you dont remember, made you, you.

And no matter how old you are, precious little child, should you find yourself up in the air, call us.

Daddy knows how to catch you. Remember?

Mam and Dad 💛
