Well, we did it! We finished the 50km race
Or goal was to complete it in under 8hrs, but with the technical terrain complete with cold temps, rain, rocks, roots, epic climbs, gnarly descents and mud...so..much..MUD!! It made it very difficult to complete it in that time.
Our official chip to chip time was 11hrs 3mins. If you factor in the hour and 55 mins we spent idle (mostly in aid stations) it took us just over 9hrs to go the distance. Not bad for a first Ultra Marathon in less than ideal conditions.
Would I do it again?
ABSOLUTELY!!
The volunteers at the aid stations were incredibly friendly and helpful. The selection of food and drinks at the aid stations were top notch and the course was very well marked!
Hats off to all the 100 miler participants! I'm in awe of how many of you just flew around that course with ease! And a special shout out to the one who shared a very valuable and humbling quote to which I'm still hanging onto, "comparison is the theif of joy"
And I'll just leave you with that to ruminate on đ
