Updated by Shaun ✌️ While visiting Italy, I started a cycling journey guided by a pro from the iconic Villa d’Este.Riding through breathtaking views of Lake Como, I felt not just my body moving—but a fire rekindled within. We cycled from Lake Como, across the border into Switzerland, and returned again. It wasn’t about speed or numbers. It was about arriving—with both body and mind.⭐️In traditional Chinese medicine, we say:“True wellness begins with the heart.”Modern life leaves us drained, overwhelmed, and often… disconnected from ourselves. But here’s the thing: When you give your body a clear goal and follow through,it’s not just blood and qi that starts flowing, your heart settles too. This 42KM wasn’t just a workout. It was a gift to myself.A healing sense of achievement that only comes from doing something hard and finishing it.Even while traveling, you can live in harmony with yourself—through things you love, through challenges that remind you:“I can do this.”📍TCM Travel Wellness Tips:🔸 Before cycling, drink a herbal tea with red dates, goji berries, astragalus, and codonopsis—boosts qi and stamina.🔸 Bring a few Five-Black Pills to nourish your kidneys and protect your knees.🔸 End your day with a hot foot soak—add mugwort and ginger to release any cold and tension.

When your mind is constantly on overdrive, your body feels it too.In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), overthinking is known to weaken the spleen and disturb the heart spirit — leading to fatigue, poor sleep, digestive issues, and emotional imbalance.

At Shaun’s Zen, many people come to us feeling:

🧠 Mentally exhausted
💭 Stuck in cycles of worry or overthinking
💤 Tired but unable to truly restThese are signs of imbalance — and we’re here to help restore it, gently and naturally.

🌿 Our two favorite ways to calm the body and quiet the mind:

▫️Acupuncture
✔️Regulates the nervous system
✔️Improves sleep, reduces anxiety, relieves tension in the gut and chest
✔️Promotes the smooth flow of qi and calms the heart

▫️Herbal Tea Therapy
✔️Blends like rose, lily bulb, jujube, and fu shen (Poria) nourish the heart and spleen
✔️Help ease emotions, reduce mental fatigue, and gently support digestion

Sometimes healing starts with just one deep breath, one quiet cup of tea, or one calming treatment.

Come pause with us. Let’s help you return to balance — body, mind, and heart.

🏍️Our founder isn’t just a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner Shaun ,he’s also a passionate motorcyclist who hits the racetrack whenever he can.

Most people picture TCM doctors surrounded by herbs and acupuncture needles. But he often says:

“True wellness isn’t just about treating the body ,it’s about nourishing the heart. Finding something that truly brings you joy is the best medicine of all.”

When he rides, fully focused and flying down the track, his body is alive with movement, but his mind is completely calm.
It’s the perfect harmony of yin and yang — motion and stillness working together.

🌿TCM isn’t about restriction. It’s about living in tune with nature, with balance, and with your own rhythm.

And you — when was the last time you did something that made your heart feel alive?
Maybe today’s the day to start.

Come to our TCM clinic, and together, let’s embark on a journey to health, exploring inner harmony and strength, and achieving holistic well-being for body, mind, and spirit.

Lichun is the first of the 24 solar terms, marking the beginning of spring.
Spring is a season of renewal, during which yang energy rises. The human body should align with this seasonal transformation to promote growth and well-being.
Focusing on three key principles: adapting to seasonal changes, nurturing yang energy, and maintaining vitality.

1.Nurturing Yang and Protecting the Liver
Spring is associated with the Wood element in the Five Elements theory, which corresponds to the liver in the human body. Therefore, spring health preservation should focus on supporting liver function and ensuring smooth circulation of liver qi.

2.Diet: Light and Nourishing to Support Liver QiConsuming moderate amounts of pungent foods—such as scallions, ginger, garlic, and chives—can help yang energy rise. However, excessive consumption may lead to excessive heat. Sour foods (such as vinegar and plums) should be limited, as they may overly restrict liver qi.

3.Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Aligning with Spring’s Vital Energy
Go to bed early at night and wake up early in the morning, engage in outdoor activities, and maintain a relaxed and joyful state of mind.

4.Avoid Depression and Anger: The liver governs emotional flow, and suppressed emotions can lead to liver qi stagnation, causing issues like insomnia, headaches, and mood imbalances.
Engage in Gentle Exercise: Tai Chi, Baduanjin (Eight Brocade Qigong), yogaand walking help regulate qi circulation and enhance yang energy.

5.Protect Against Wind and Cold – Preventing Spring Chill
Although Lichun signals the start of spring, cold weather fluctuations persist.

Come to our TCM clinic, and together, let’s embark on a journey to health, exploring inner harmony and strength, and achieving holistic well-being for body, mind, and spirit.

【Kidney Deficiency 腎虛 in TCM】

How to Protect Your Energy Reserves Kidney deficiency is a common issue in Traditional Chinese Medicine, especially affecting men. Kidney function not only involves the urinary and reproductive systems but also plays a role in storing and utilizing the body’s energy.

Here are some common causes of kidney deficiency:

1. Lack of Sleep: Insufficient rest depletes your energy reserves and affects overall bodily function.

2. Overexertion: Excessive physical or sexual activity drains energy and harms kidney qi.

3. Improper Diet: Eating too much oily, salty, or unbalanced food impacts energy storage.

4. Excessive Stress: Chronic fear or stress gradually weakens the kidneys.

5. Aging: As we age, kidney energy naturally decreases, reducing vitality.

Nurturing the heart 養心 involves learning to release stress and reduce anxiety, using methods like mindfulness, meditation, and deep breathing to restore inner calm. When we can face life’s challenges with a peaceful and optimistic attitude, the body’s self-healing abilities and immune system naturally strengthen, achieving a harmonious balance between mind and body.

Health preservation begins with nurturing the heart.

As Vancouver faces a severe flu season, the latest data from the Public Health Agency of Canada reveals that, as of January 2025, 65 flu-related deaths have been reported nationwide. The predominant strain this year is H1N1 influenza, known for its rapid transmission and varied symptoms.

Common symptoms include fever, cough, muscle aches, chills, fatigue, headaches, sore throat, appetite loss, runny nose, or nasal congestion. In some cases, especially among children, symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea may also occur.

To combat the rising spread of respiratory illnesses, British Columbia’s Health Authority has reinstated a mask mandate across all healthcare facilities this week, requiring staff, patients, visitors, and volunteers to wear masks.

Flu can lead to severe complications such as worsening of chronic conditions, heart issues, pneumonia, and respiratory failure, which may result in hospitalization or death. Recently, the tragic passing of a public figure, Taiwanese artist Barbie Hsu (Big S), due to flu-induced pneumonia serves as a reminder of the flu’s serious risks.

【Nourish the lungs and prevent dryness】

1. Eat Lung-Nourishing Foods:
- Incorporate foods that help moisten and nourish the lungs, such as lily bulbs, pears, white fungus, honey, lotus seeds, almonds, and yam. These foods help counteract dryness and alleviate symptoms like dry throat or cough.
- Seasonal fruits like pears and persimmons are particularly effective. Eating raw pears helps clear lung heat, while cooked pears moisten the lungs.

2. Stay Hydrated:
- Autumn's dry climate can cause loss of body moisture, so drinking plenty of water helps maintain hydration and supports the respiratory system.

3. Engage in Moderate Exercise:
- Gentle outdoor activities, like Tai Chi or Qi Gong, help improve lung function by promoting the movement of lung energy (Qi) and boosting immunity against the dry and cold autumn weather.

4. Maintain Healthy Habits:
- Dress warmly to prevent cold air from weakening the lungs.
- Keep indoor humidity balanced with a humidifier or water bowls to prevent dry air from irritating the lungs.

5. Regulate Emotions:
- In TCM, the lungs are linked to emotions like grief and sadness. Excessive negative emotions can weaken lung function. It's important to maintain emotional balance and find ways to stay positive during this season.

6. Lung-Nourishing Soups:
- Try making soups with ingredients like white fungus, lotus seeds, or pears, such as pear and lily bulb soup, to moisten dryness and strengthen lung health.

By following these practices, you can protect your lungs, stay hydrated, and adapt to the dry autumn climate, maintaining overall well-being.
