A native of Haida Gwaii, James has been immersed in maritime life and oceanic environments from an early age. His maritime career began in the commercial and sport fishing industries, establishing a strong foundation of practical experience and operational knowledge.
In 2000, James joined the Canadian Coast Guard, serving for 20 years as a Search and Rescue Specialist. During this tenure, he developed extensive expertise in maritime safety, emergency response, and rescue operations, gaining valuable experience in complex and demanding environments.
James joined Bridgemans in 2017 as the Captain of the Haisla Northwind, Bridgemans’ multicat, supporting projects in Kitimat, BC. Recognizing his leadership and operational capabilities, James was promoted to a Senior Captain for Bridgemans’ Small Vessel Fleet in 2020. In this capacity, he has overseen a wide range of marine construction projects and support operations.
James’ responsibilities have included supervising major marine projects in Kitimat, BC and supporting operations in Manila, Philippines aboard Bridgemans’ Floatel support vessel, the Padas. He also played an integral roll with the arrival of the floatel Isabelle X to Canada, as well as overseeing the refit of the Amia X and her transit to Canada.
Currently, James serves as the Master of the Amia X, executing scheduled operations from Squamish, BC to the Bridgemans Marine Terminal on the North Arm River, in Richmond, BC. This route is recognized as one of the most challenging transit corridors, demanding meticulous navigation and experienced seamanship.
James is a tremendous asset to the Bridgemans Team, and we are grateful for his unwavering commitment to safety and professionalism. In the challenging waters of British Columbia, his expertise ensures that every journey is conducted with the utmost care.
